Cannot Open MBAM

Recommended Posts

When trying to run MBAM I get 'Vbaccelerator Run-time Error 0' and 'MBAM Run-time error 440'. Gammo tells me it is not a malware problem. O/S is Win7 x64bit. ZoneAlarmPlus Firewall. Avast 5 AV plus Immunet Protect and Threatfire. Have been using MBAM for over a year with this configuration without any problem.

Any suggestions much appreciated, thanks.

Hello and welcome to Malwarebytes

Two things you can try.....

First....

Please exclude the following files from your antivirus: ( Avast 5 AV )

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude them from it as well

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\SysWoW64\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE from it as well

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:

data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

The FAQ contains examples of setting file exclusions for some known AV products

Second.....

For Run-Time Error 440

As Per exile360......

Please download the attached file and extract it then double-click on the MBAM_440_Fix.bat file to run it. If you are using Vista or Windows 7 you must right-click the file and select "Run as administrator".

MBAM_440_Fix.zip

Please let me know if it corrects the issue or not.

Thanks :(

Sorry to hear you had problems with avast!

I have no problems with avast! but then I do not use ZoneAlarmPlus Firewall nor Immunet Protect nor Threatfire.

Hi. Not sure what your point is. I did not have problems with Avast, but like to change my AV from time to time. The other progs form a layered defense against malware as no single product can detect everything.
