its just a white peice of paper with a white and blue folder in it. can i add the malwarebytes icon to the program?

i have never had this problem before, and am not sure of how to fix it.

Hello Tall Man:

Please add following exclusions in MSE for MBAM

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\SysWoW64\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

You didn't mention about firewall, if you are using third-party software based firewall then you also have to exclude MBAM.EXE from it

As far icon is concerned we will let you know later

Should you have any other question(s) please post back using MXyBj.png button

This happened to me last week for no apparent reason on a system with no new changes or software/hardware installs.

MBAM had been running fine since the original install (full permissions, etc).

It happened after a routine power up and routine KIS2011 database update (which may have been a coincidence).

http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?s...mp;#entry317682

It affected 2 programs, MBAM and IoBit SmartDefrag. Neither program was running when it happened (I do not have MBAM configured to run at Windows startup).

For MBAM I was able to resolve it by right-clicking on the "generic" shortcut > properties > change icon and pointing it back to the original source EXE file.

It also worked once for the other icon, but then it reverted back to "generic".

Since it's a program I use rarely, I just deleted this particular shortcut.

The program (and it's "generic" shortcut icon) still work(ed) fine.

And the system tray icons for both programs were normal, even when the desktop shortcut icons were not.

Weird.

I found a fix here:

http://www.sevenforums.com/performance-mai...oncache-db.html

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/49819...he-rebuild.html

But I didn't bother to try it yet since it's only a "cosmetic" problem, since the icon for MBAM is "normal" now, and since I didn't want to risk solving 1 issue and creating another....

Please let me know if you try the fix (either the BAT file or the manual steps to rebuild the iconcache) and let us know if it works....

Thanks!

daledoc1

PS Uninstalling/reinstalling SmartDefrag did NOT resolve the issue. Hence, I didn't bother to uninstall/cleanup/reinstall MBAM at that time b/c it's a bit "involved". A new build of KIS2011 is due out in a few weeks, which will require uninstalling MBAM before the upgrade. So, I am waiting until then. And, just to reiterate: both programs are working fine, so it's just a cosmetic problem for now.

@ Haider:

Yes, as I mentioned in my reply, that did seem to work -- "permanently" for the MBAM icon (but only temporarily for the other one, inexplicably). :(

It is certainly the easiest way to go, if it works.

Still unclear WHY this is happening, though. :(

It appears to be a Windows thing, rather than something specific to the programs involved.

@ Tall Man:

Please do let us know how it works out!

Thanks,

daledoc1

So, please tell us: which fix did you use, please -- the "change icon" fix suggested here by the forum moderator in the post #7 of the link Haider provided, OR the batch file from the other forum, OR the manual steps to rebuild the icon cache from the other forum??

(We can all learn from your experiences.)

As for your other question -- it sounds like you need a firewall.

However,

1) If you use the SEARCH box here at the boards, I think you will find many recent/current threads on this topic. Many of the members and moderators have a list of good, compatible firewalls (some free, some not).

2) I can't really help you much there, since I use paid security suites (currently KIS2011 and Webroot ISE; previously McAfee & (years ago, on XP) Norton).

and

3) It's probably best if you start a new thread on this new topic. :(

Regards,

daledoc1
