Help, malwarebytes keeps on crashing

Recommended Posts

Every time i run a full scan on my Recovery (d) drive, malwarebytes crashes. I went into safe mode and ran a full scan on the d drive there and it worked, it scanned it without crashing and the results came back negative meaning no threats were detected. But when i do a full scan on that drive in regular mode, it crashes. Why is this? Help would me appreciated.

Greetings! :welcome: Can you please run a quick scan on your main hard drive? Let us know how it goes? When you post back tell us your operating system and what Anti-Virus you have .... regards...

EDIT run it in windows, not safe mode please....

K, so i ran a quick scan on my hard drive and it had some pauses during it, but it didn't crash and there were no infected objects found. The operating system i am running is windows 7 and i am currently using microsoft security essentials for my anti-virus program.

some time pauses are normal, it will stop say for example 10 seconds & resume & jump up 10 seconds. Make sure you have MSE exclude Malwarebytes files so theres no issues:

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll

C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

Post back if there are any questions or issues, your Malwarebytes sounds like its running ok! and it found nothing. A quick scan in Windows, will be enough. (not safe mode) A full scan once a month or 2 months will be more than enough.... regards...

Please try the following to see if it corrects the issue:

  • Open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and click on the Settings then click on Scanner Settings
  • Uncheck the box next to Enable advanced heuristics engine. (Heuristics.Shuriken)
  • Try a full scan in Normal Mode (not Safe Mode) again to see if it still crashes or not

Please post back with your results.

Thanks :welcome:

did Malwarebytes crash or did it work.. your up to date on updates... reply back

Ok here is the situation, i run a full system scan and it scans my registries and my c drive just fine, but when it goes to my d drive, weird stuff keeps on happening. For example, it would just pause at one spot and it would just sit there for like 5 to 10 minutes without moving onto the next file, then all of a sudden the the number of objects scanned jumped up a little bit and it would pause again after the jump. Also, when ever i would click on the program while the scan paused, i would get a message saying malwarebytes has stopped working and would crash.

To clarify, this is what happened on my last full system scan

Lets move you up! If you have an infection they will find it & both of you will remove it! If you don't have an infection, will cya back out here. good luck

Please read the following so that you can begin the cleaning process:

As we don't deal with malware removal in the General Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Forum, you need to start a topic in the Malware Removal forum so a qualified helper can help you fix any malware related problems/infections you may have.

  • Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.
  • After posting your new post, make sure under options, you select Track this topic and choose Immediate Email Notification, so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post.
  • One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.
  • Please refrain from making any further changes to your computer (Install/Uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc...) unless advised by a malware removal helper. Doing so can result in system changes which may hinder the attempts by a helper to clean your machine.
  • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version

NOTE: Please DO NOT post back to (bump) your topic within the first 48 hours.

Replying to your own posts changes the post count and helpers are looking for topics with zero replies. If you reply to your own post helpers may think that you're already being helped and thus overlook your post.

    • If there is no reply from any experts after 48 hours, you can reply to the topic, asking for help again.
      Or
    • You may send a Private Message to a Moderator asking for assistance.

Alternatively, as a paying customer, you can contact the help desk at support@malwarebytes.org or here.

Your Welcome! -In HJK Forum

Hey, i got it to work, what i forgot to do is exclude the processes as well as exclude the files. Once i excluded the processes, the scan worked and it didn't crash. Why did this all of a sudden happen? I didn't exclude anything when i first installed the program and it worked fine until two days ago.

I have a system with Vista on it that I have been working on. I was getting the error "internet explorer has stopped working". Researched online and seems to be a common issue but no sound solution. I cleaned the system and do not get that error message anymore but now I am getting the "malwarebytes has stopped working" error message that this user is getting.

Whatever is wrong on the systems seems to hijack the malwarebytes and stop it from working same as it did the IE. Seems like I got rid of it on IE but it has attached itself to Malwarebytes. I was not able to download Malwarebytes from the internet-it kept redirecting me. So I used another system to download to a thumbdrive and loaded from there.

Any thoughts? I can't seem to get away from the message on Malwarebytes.
