I ran MWBytes. No threats detected, but it seems like the GoogleImage Search Hijack is still in place.

I realized I hadn't included all needed information in my first post. Please see most recent log data below. Google Search REsult Hijack still present.

I was able to run GMER, but I did recieve an error message when launching it as follows:

c:\Windows\Sytem32\Config\System: The system cannot find the file specified. (OK)

And a similar error message when starting the scan.

GMER found no rootkit indications so the ark.txt file was empty.

DDS did identify a couploe suspicious files which were created right around the time I noticed the problem. The full report is pasted at the bottom, the suspicios files are listed just below.

Welcome to mbam

  • Download TDSSKiller.zip and extract TDSSKiller.exe to your desktop
  • Execute TDSSKiller.exe by doubleclicking on it.
  • Press Start Scan
  • If Malicious objects are found, ensure Cure is selected (it should be by default)
  • Click Continue then click Reboot now
  • Once complete, a log will be produced at the root drive which is typically C:\
    For example, C:\TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_24.07.2010_13.10.52_log.txt
  • Attach that log, please.

I've been comparing search results on another machine.

At this point, I'm doubtful that this really is a hijack. Rather, google image search is just providing lousy (explicit) results.

Unless you see something worrisome, you can close this post.

Thanks for your assistance.
