Symmtime HELP (NTP)

Ok

Here's one for you all - and this is baffling me

I use Symmtime 2010 (v4.9) across different systems on a network of 12 computers (they all run XP but a mix of XP Home and XP Pro)

On 2 computers in the building I have a corruption showing. By this I mean it could be a few minutes out of date

Wanted to edit this post but for some reason will not allow..

Update - I took the battery out of one of the PC's to send it back to y2k... thinking Symmtime would then synchronise correctly...its now years out of date - it will sync correctly then less than 2 seconds later it goes back years

Any ideas????

Hi Chris -

Have you ever thought to use an earlier version of Symmtime with your XP units ??

Symmtime 2010 (v4.9) is the latest version and they are fully XP suited , but earlier versions are still available to download -

Thank You -

EDIT -

Setting up NTP correctly can be difficult especially if not using a Domain structure (Windows Home cannot join a domain).

My suggestion would be to read up about it more or contact the company to ensure you're setting it up as they suggest.

Normally on a MS Domain you would let the Domain controllers tell the desktops what time it is and they would use a tier structure from an atomic NTP source, etc...

If you have something setup wrong it could actually be telling the other system to reset it's time incorrectly, though this should show in the Event Logs

There are many resources on the Web that discuss setting up time properly. I'd start with the site where you got the software though first to ensure you've not accidentally chosen or set something wrong.

The Home XP systems cannot ask the Domain controller what time it is because they can't join (but if all setup correctly it can still be managed to work as desired)

Just kind of a big topic to get into here.
