12007 error on update, entire network cannot connect

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am receiving the following error:

MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING (12007, 0, WinHttpSendRequest)

I have checked a number of other threads and so far I've come up short. So far, I've followed the directions on the following links:

http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=62515

http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?s...mode=linearplus

My laptop is infected with a virus that is doing redirects to buy an obviously illegitimate virus software product, and not allowing me to open any applications, including MABM, unless it's operating in safe mode. Unfortunately, I continue to get the same error above. I have attempted the same update on 3 other desktop machines all on my network, with the same result every time. Laptop is running Vista Pro, desktops are running XP Pro. All have Windows Firewall turned off, and have no additional Firewall or Anti-Virus software installed, or any other applications which would trigger a similar issue. The version of MABM I am trying to update is 1.46

As for the instructions in the second link,

STEP 1: The page would not load

STEP 2: Here are the tracert results:

STEP 3: MABM never shows up under the list, not even highlighted.

Is there some sort of network trouble that may be happening, such as a port that needs to be opened on my router, or is this a symptom of a virus that has spread throughout my entire network? None of my machines have a current definition file.

TIA

Yes there is a network problem , but it is only related to Your router / System - You are not getting out of your own router 192.168.1.1 -

Please follow these directions -

You may want to print or write these directions as you will disconnect from the internet for a while -

1. Very important: First disconnect your computer from the internet.

2. Router Reset: Next you must reset the router to its default configuration. This can be done by inserting something tiny like a paper clip end or pencil tip into a small hole labeled "reset" located on the back of the router. Press and hold down the small button inside until the lights on the front of the router blink off and then on again (usually about 10 seconds).

3. Reset the IP/DNS settings of your interent connection:

  • Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Double click on Network Connections.
  • Right click on your default connection (usually Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection) and select Properties.
  • Select the General tab.
  • Double click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
?Under General tab: > Select Properties
  • Select "Obtain an IP address automatically".
  • Select "Obtain DNS server address automatically".
  • Click OK twice to save the settings.
  • Reboot if you had to change any setting.

4. Flush the DNS cache:

  • Click the Start logo in the bottom left corner of the screen
  • Click on Run , or press Windows Logo+R
  • In the command window copy/paste the following:
    ipconfig /flushdns

  • Then hit enter.
  • Exit the command window.

5. Reconnect: Once you have followed all the above steps you can reconnect your computer to the internet.

Then let me know if you can update - The link in Step 1 should now show approx 4626
