Malwarebytes Won't Open! Help Please!

Hello! I'm new and a little computer illiterate so please be gentle.

I'm running Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron 6000 and noticed the other day that my computer was running amazingly slow so I decided to run a malwarebytes scan. Unfortunately it didn't launch.

I tried it in safe mode but it still didn't launch.

then I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and safe mode again but no luck.

Then I surfed this forum a little and tried renaming the .exe to .com but that didn't work either.

What's my next step?

Hi What kind of Anti-virus are you using ? EDIT and do you still have Malwarebytes installed?

If I may add a bit more to yardbird's response, and also expand the exchange of detail.

When was the last time your antivirus program completed a scan ? and was it all clean results?

Give me an idea of how much physical RAM memory is on this pc. Barring malware infections, a slowdown may be due to other factors.

If there's malware onboard, then that would tend to explain why you cannot run MBAM.

You said MBAM did not "launch".

Are you having the same thing happen with other programs? or Internet Explorer?
