Error Load Database

Recommended Posts

I recently updated MBAM and immediately started getting MBAM_ERROR_LOAD_DATABASE (0,5) -- it will no longer load on my XP laptop. Saw the error code list and this is not on it. I am absolutely positive I paid for the program as a registered user but the system rejects my inputs for username and password for a "partner" (whatever that exactly is) I have also changed email address the past year but both new and old don't work either. The forum ones still work here, though.

Hi -

For a MBAM_ERROR_LOAD_DATABASE (0,5) Please follow these directions on your XP -

Show Hidden Files and Folders in Windows XP:

  • Click Start and select My Computer
  • Click the Tools item from the menu at the top of the window (if you don't see Tools press the Alt key on your keyboard and it will appear)
  • Select Folder Options
  • Click the View tab and make sure Show hidden files and folders is selected under Hidden files and folders
  • Next, uncheck the box next to Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
  • Then, uncheck the box next to Hide extensions for known filetypes
  • Click Apply then click OK

Then go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and delete rules.ref. Once you've done that, start MBAM and when it shows the error and asks to update, let it do so and see if that corrects it.

Reset Hidden Files and Folders in Windows XP:

  • Click Start and select My Computer
  • Click the Tools item from the menu at the top of the window (if you don't see Tools press the Alt key on your keyboard and it will appear)
  • Select Folder Options
  • Click the View tab and make sure Do not show hidden files and folders is selected under Hidden files and folders
  • Next, check the box next to Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
  • Then, check the box next to Hide extensions for known filetypes
  • Click Apply then click OK

Thank You -

Got it working but it did not initially offer to update after deleting rules.ref and restarting. Then I disabled my virus protection and firewall just in case and then when it STILL would not load at start-up I just manually started it whereupon it made the update offer. All OK now! Thanks, Sue

Hello Sooz: :)

Are you using Free version of MBAM? It is on-demand only! i.e. Scanning/Updating you've to do manually

Should you have any other question(s) please post back, someone will assist, don't forget to include Operating Systemm, installed Security Product(s) including Firewall

No problem now Sooz :) - I should have added to that item to disable your A/V and Firewall while you do this , and Re enable once finished -

Thank You -

Just experienced identical problem, followed instructions although I don't like disabling all security, and problem resolved. The error message appeared after I triggered a manual update (I run Malwarebytes during a secondary phase start-up and do a manual update if an update did not occur during primary start-up). Interestingly, when I did a manual update at the at the end of the problem resolution procedure, the response was that the database was up to date. Given that the problem in my case *appears* to have occurred a day or so later than the OP, I wondered what the cause was? The only significant event that occurred yesterday was the Microsoft monthly security update (can't recall where the OP was located but because of the time difference, in Europe the '2nd Tuesday of the month updates' occur on the following day).

Hello ottchris: :)

You don't need to Disable installed Security Product(s), however, you have to add proper exclusions so they do not conflict with each

Please start your own thread otherwise things would get mixed-up with the topic starter, and list Windows version, Security Product(s), and Firewall, someone will assist you on adding those exclusions

Should you have any other question(s) please post back

I'm happy to start another thread BUT I piggy backed on this thread because 1) the OP and my error messages are identical, 2) the OP and I have the same OS, 3) the OP any my error messages appeared within a few days of each other and 4) the problem resolution procedure given to the OP (which incidentally included temporary disabling of Firewall and AV) also worked for me. Until someone explains exactly what triggers the error in question, it seems logical to continue in this thread. If twenty posters experience identical problems are you suggesting they be discussed in twenty separate threads?

@ ottchris

As Haider said: "Please start your own thread otherwise things would get mixed-up with the topic starter" even if its the same 20 topics.

Posters who tailgate on another poster, get missed, get a reply that the helper may think is the original posters question, or may not get seen! Then they wonder why they did not get an answer! Please follow Haider's instructions. Your most welcome here. We don't want to miss your post, or reply with the wrong info, because the OP may have not exactly the same issue. Thank you for your time. best regards.... someone will get back to you.
