We had a discussion on here once upon a time about ripping scissors and knife-blades into our hands and other extremities while trying to open these "hard-shell" packaging containers. Looks as if at least ONE company is realizing the same thing. Maybe Amazon's concern will spread to other companies?? One can always hope.

There are two issues involved in excessive packaging. First, regarding retail outlets, they like it as thieves have a tough time opening the packages to take and hide a small but expensive item on their person. This is a huge saving to retailers.

Secondly and oddly enough, consumers tend to like the flashy big packages even though they hate opening them. They feel that the item is untampered with and shiny new

Plus the fact of how much "unnecessary resources" are being used. This isn't helping the environment by putting packages in packages. Doesn't make any sense.

Gota stop the thieves ... Up here stores have video times 6-8 cams live feed.... or pack the item up good.... (someone stole a 5 cell "D" mag light) out of the plastic - the plastic was all that remained in the store.... and this is a town of 16,000

We need to find that guy and have him author a pamphlet on removing plastic packaging from items without half killing ones self and/or leaving various forms of DNA.

I think Fry's Electronics has a decent solution to solve this problem: keep small and expensive items (RAM, hard drives, etc.) in a "cage" behind the register.

Today i bought a set of Sony headphones at wallyworld. Oddly it was the easiest opening blister pack i have ever seen! One tab to pull down on back and everything out in 10 seconds
