can't update

Recommended Posts

whenever I try to update mbam I get "MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING (12007,0, WinHttpSendRequest)

I also have some kind of redirect virus that I'm thinking is in my router or switch because I've completely reinstalled Windows and still continue to get redirected when using google. I've tried, ComboFix, Spyware Doctor and now Mbam, and all tell me there are no problems. But I'm thinking before I figure that out I have to figure out how to update mbam.

thanks,

Beau

This sounds like your router may need to be reset.... do you use a router in your home? If you need help with ther router let us know, but first try the steps below.... The reason I say this is cause you say you have re-done your computer and the problem still exists.... Here is something to ponder on....

Here are some steps to diagnose update issues:

Step 1

Click on
and let me know what it says. It should be just a 4-digit number in the upper-left corner.

Step 2

Please download and run the traceroute utility at
. It will run a traceroute to our update servers to see if it can find the connection issue, and then it will write it to a log, and open that log in Notepad when it is done. Please either save the log as a Text File and then attach it to a reply, or copy and paste it into a reply, and I will forward it on to our server guy.

Note that it may take several minutes to run, and it may look like it is not doing anything for a few minutes. Normally it takes longer when there are errors that it has to log, but it's rare for it to go more than 10 minutes.

Step 3

Please download TCPView from Microsoft at
.

This utility will monitor everything that is accessing the Internet or your local network. All you have to do is run TCPView, and then run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and start the update. Watch TCPView to see if mbam.exe shows up in the list. It will be pretty obvious, because it highlights it in green.

I need to know what "Remote Address" Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is trying to connect to. Once it shows up in the list, you can right-click on the line for mbam.exe, and select 'Copy' in order to paste it into a reply. It will tell me what I need to know. Below is an example of what the line you are looking for will look like inside the following code box:

mbam.exe:3656 TCP vista-x64:52135 cdn-208-111-168-7.ord.llnw.net:http ESTABLISHED

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

When I click on "Diagnose Connection Problems"

it tels me that Windows cannot find "data-cdn.mbamupdates.com"

it says "Windows sent the request to the DNS server and the server responded that the name was unknown.

When I go to the link in step 1 I get 4157.... Since you can not get to the site then something is blocking you.

That traceroute log shows a DNS issue, and it's possible that your DNS settings have been hijacked. If you connect to the Internet through a router, then I would highly recommend that you reset it to it's factory default settings by holding the 'Reset' button on the back of the router until the power light starts blinking. This will clear all of the settings, including DNS settings, and reset them to the factory defaults, which should resolve the issue.

Please note that you will need to set the router back up after performing this reset.

Also, if you know how to check the router's DNS settings manually, then you can change the DNS settings in the router to resolve the issue without resetting it. :)

Well that appears to have done the trick! Although this is like the fifth time I've reset my router. The only thing I did different this time was to unplug my switch as well. Can a Switch get highjacked as well? It's a TRENDnet if that means anything. And how do I figure out all those processes running? What are they and do I really need them all running?

Here's what I get now.

Hello Haider,

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure that I need to do those things only I don't know how. I have a netgear router and know how to get to the site but it doesn't seem too user friendly. Do you know how to change those three things? I don't think the switched is managed because I just plugged the thing in and it worked. I didn't have to set anything up whatsover. I believe that I do need to follow your advice however and periodicaly change those things so any help in that area would be appreciated!

Hi All--

I'm a new member. I am also unable to update today. I'm getting error message 732 (0, 0). I have done the three steps outlined by Firefox. The results are below. I don't use a wireless router. My computer seems to be infected and is sending out spam emails to my entire Yahoo address book.

Here are the results when I did the three steps:

I succeeded in getting the 4-digit number in the top left corner in Step 1.

My traceroute results are here:

You're fine I was just kidding, you're more than welcome, and I found the instructions to change the password for my router and actually understood them, trying to figure out the default IP now,

And from one newb to another I'm probably not posting correctly myself, and how do you paste screenshots in here? Or can you? I wanted to show my router info. Do I just upload it as an attachment?

Hello pavane and ;)

For error 732.....

Please try the following to see if it helps:

Windows XP:

  • Click on Start and select Control Panel
  • Open Add/Remove Programs
  • Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Restart your computer very important
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • NOTE: If you get SHGetValue failed with error code 0, that only means that the tool has nothing to perform, continue on with the next step....
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask me and I'll explain how to do it.

Windows Vista and Windows 7:

  • Click on Programs and Features

Have a look at the Netgear site HERE for some instructions on setting up your router.

I did all that but it doesn't tell me how or if I need to periodically change my routers default ip address, I don't quite understand it. It appears it's set to dhcp so...... I dunno lol. I've attached what it looks like now.

that page is fine, no need to change your router ip address, as for resetting the IP address you get from your internet provider, they are also set to dhcp, and most routers if you reset them, they will usually get a different IP address from the provider (but all that depends on how the provider has set up the DHCP settings on their end and you have no control of that).

You can get all downloads, firmware updates and manuels for your router model HERE

Okay so then everything is okay and stop fooling with stuff? Is that what you're trying to say? lol Thank you everyone for all your help, I really appreciate it!
