Hello, nice forums you have here.

I was advised to use this program to remove some annoying trojan/virus that was very common.

After installing+updating malwarebyes, it found a list of problems it could remove, so once finished it advised me to reboot.

All was looking good untill it came to the vista login screen, message pops up saying " LogonUI.exe - Unable To Locate Component This application has failed to start because msls51.dll was not found" something along the lines of this.

Wasn't to worried at this stage since this happened to me around 4 months ago using differnt removal software, i fixed

the issue by using some alienware recovery disk (i have an alienware desktop around 4 years old) there is an option to try and restore to many previous dates, worked fine back then. However this time around i selected restore to a couple of days a go, According to my computer it was succesfull. Rebooted back to the login screen, this time says

" C:\windows\system\32\msls51.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installtion media or contact your system admin or the software vendor for support".

I have tryed to restore around 6 times to various dates and no joy, i also did the system repair which is a feautre on the alienware cd and it hasn't made it work. Tryed loading in safe mode ect, had the cmd.exe box once. Can access cmd.exe via my recovery cd, but don't no if i can type anything to fix it through there. Currenlty using my laptop to post this message. After clicking the x numerous times on the dialogue box on the vista login screen i can type my password but the screen is black behind and itsn't doing alot.

Is there any fix for this? Our am i going to have to do a fresh install and stick windows 7 since vista isn't to good.

Any help of this matter would be very much apperciated

Thanks-Adrian

Hi, this is in fact a patched windows file.

The problem is, we first need to have a valid replacement copy for the patched file, before we can restore it using the command prompt.

Can you in any mode access the taskmanager? Just click away those errors and tap alt-ctrl-del and see if the taskmanager comes up. If so, click File > Run, type explorer.exe and press enter.

If not, we will need to create a bootable disk that allows us to search for a copy of the uxtheme.dll file.

No, its not very complicated, but it requires you to do a few things manually in which I cannot guide you completely.

Try this please.

Download GETxPUD.exe to the desktop of your clean computer

  • Run GETxPUD.exe
  • A new folder will appear on the desktop.
  • Open the GETxPUD folder and click on the get&burn.bat
  • The program will download xpud_0.9.2.iso, and upon finished will open BurnCDCC ready to burn the image.
  • Click on Start and follow the prompts to burn the image to a CD.
  • Remove the USB & CD and insert it in the sick computer
  • Boot the Sick computer with the CD you just burned
  • The computer must be set to boot from the CD
  • Gently tap F12 and choose to boot from the CD
  • Follow the prompts
  • A Welcome to xPUD screen will appear
  • Press File
  • Expand mnt
  • sda1,2...usually corresponds to your HDD

You can now browse sda1/2 (just look which one represents your windows disk, it should have a Windows folder on it for one).

Please see if you can find the option to search the drive and search for uxtheme.dll

Let me know what file locations you can find.

Managed to get a boot disk, went to the windows system folder, and there was a copy of uxtheme.dll with some strange numbers and a tmp at the end - but it was the same size as the uxtheme.dll. So I renamed uxtheme.dll to a tmp, and renamed the other one back. The PC then booted, so going to do another scan etc.

Many thanks once again, will report back.
