msls51.dll issue vista wont load

Recommended Posts

Hello, nice forums you have here.

I was advised to use this program to remove some annoying trojan/virus that was very common.

After installing+updating malwarebyes, it found a list of problems it could remove, so once finished it advised me to reboot.

All was looking good untill it came to the vista login screen, message pops up saying " LogonUI.exe - Unable To Locate Component This application has failed to start because msls51.dll was not found" something along the lines of this.

Wasn't to worried at this stage since this happened to me around 4 months ago using differnt removal software, i fixed

the issue by using some alienware recovery disk (i have an alienware desktop around 4 years old) there is an option to try and restore to many previous dates, worked fine back then. However this time around i selected restore to a couple of days a go, According to my computer it was succesfull. Rebooted back to the login screen, this time says

" C:\windows\system\32\msls51.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installtion media or contact your system admin or the software vendor for support".

I have tryed to restore around 6 times to various dates and no joy, i also did the system repair which is a feautre on the alienware cd and it hasn't made it work. Tryed loading in safe mode ect, had the cmd.exe box once. Can access cmd.exe via my recovery cd, but don't no if i can type anything to fix it through there. Currenlty using my laptop to post this message. After clicking the x numerous times on the dialogue box on the vista login screen i can type my password but the screen is black behind and itsn't doing alot.

Is there any fix for this? Our am i going to have to do a fresh install and stick windows 7 since vista isn't to good.

Any help of this matter would be very much apperciated

Thanks-Adrian

Hi, and Welcome to Malwarebytes!

Sorry to hear you are having issues, since this was due to malware, lets have the experts take a look at it.

Please read the following so that you can begin the cleaning process:

As we don't deal with malware removal in the General Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Forum, you need to start a topic in the Malware Removal forum so a qualified helper can help you fix any malware related problems/infections you may have.

  • Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.
  • After posting your new post, make sure under options, you select Track this topic and choose Immediate Email Notification, so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post.
  • One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.
  • Please refrain from making any further changes to your computer (Install/Uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc...) unless advised by a malware removal helper. Doing so can result in system changes which may hinder the attempts by a helper to clean your machine.

NOTE: Please DO NOT post back to (bump) your topic within the first 48 hours.

Replying to your own posts changes the post count and helpers are looking for topics with zero replies. If you reply to your own post helpers may think that you're already being helped and thus overlook your post.

    • If there is no reply from any experts after 48 hours, you can reply to the topic, asking for help again.
      Or
    • You may send a Private Message to a Moderator asking for assistance.

Alternatively, as a paying customer, you can contact the help desk at support@malwarebytes.org or here.

Please be patient, someone will assist you as soon as it is possible.

PS: Please use the "ADDREPLY" t_reply.gif button instead of other ones when you start replying. :)
