HELP! MBAM Runtime error, Rootkit Activity

Recommended Posts

Okay, let me just give you a brief description.

My computer has had various viruses and 1 rootkit in the past couple years, nothing that couldn't be killed.

Yesterday I was doing some stuff under services.msc and msconfig, turning off some startups and disabling irrelevant services.

I restarted to have the edits take effects, and I noticed it HANGED real bad on the 'Windows is logging in...' screen.

Finally logged in, and seemed kinda weird. Alot of the start up programs I had unchecked, came back up again.

Said it was in 'Diagnostic Mode'. Strange.

So check it back to Normal Startup and noticed all of my desktop icons were stuck and unmovable.

Now no programs run in the taskbar, and it's sluggish as hell.

I know it's probably malware/rootkit activity. AVG and Spybot both scanned and came up empty, ran MBAM and it showed up with a runtime error 372.

I'm unable to start System Restore and i'm unable to Uninstall Programs.

I can't copy and paste or anything either, and i'm getting random redirections to malicious websites it seems.

I scanned with GMER and got one line highlighted in red, a hidden [bOOT] service.

Unable to post the service right now but I will post it after this with a HijackThis log.

PLEASE HELP ME!

You have the same issue posted at BC forums MalwareRemoval at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic344173.html

:)

Comments and suggestions:

Wait for an authorized helper to make the 1st response.

"Bumping" (replying) to your own topic is counter-productive and rude.

Counter-productive in that the response count goes up and authorized helpers will tend to bypass the topic thinking it has been replied to.

Helpers first look for topics with NO responses. Human nature.

"Bumping" pushes your topic back to end of queue.

Also, making more than 1 topic on same issue is a drain on resources.

The malware removal forums tend to be very busy and quite full with cases.

Have patience, wait your turn and look for reply by an authorized responder.

BTW, you took a high risk by running Combofix on your own.

The tool is intended only for use with the guidance of trained experts. Otherwise you run a chance of turning your system into a door stop.

Decide as to which of the 2 forums you stay with and request the other forum to Close their topic.

Hi,

Please note: ComboFix is an extremely powerful tool which should only be used when instructed to do so by someone who has been properly trained. ComboFix is intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert". It is NOT for unsupervised use. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer.

Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please read carefully and follow these steps.
  • Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
  • Extract its contents to your desktop.
  • Once extracted, open the TDSSKiller folder and doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.
  • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue.
    TDSSKillerMal-1.png
  • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Here is a guide on how to disable them:
    Click me
    If you can't disable them then just continue on.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.
Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:
whatnext.png
Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt log in your next reply.
