The "Enable protection module." option will be greyed out if protection is already active. Regarding the notifications, you can test to make sure it is still working by visiting this harmless site as we use it for testing that the website protection component is active: iptest.malwarebytes.org.

Thanks Nokonojon and Exile360 for your replies. I did reinstall Malwarebytes. "Enable protection module" is still greyed out, but I understand now that this is normal. I tried to connect to the ip-testsite, but my browser was unable to connect to the server, and that after numerous tries. I really miss the bubbles.

It sounds like balloontips are disabled in the registry or possibly just in Malwarebytes.

Step 1:

First, please open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and click on the Protection tab and verify that Show tooltip balloon when malicious website is blocked. is checked. If it is, then proceed with the next step.

Step 2:

  • Please copy and paste the following text exactly as written into notepad (not wordpad or any other text editor):
    @echo off
    reg query HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced /v EnableBalloonTips>>"%userprofile%\desktop\Check.txt"
    "%userprofile%\desktop\Check.txt"
    del /f /q "%userprofile%\desktop\Check.txt"
    del /f /q %0

    Once you've done that click on File and select Save As...

  • In the Save dialogue box click on the drop down menu next to Save as type and select All Files
  • Name the file Balloon.bat (the .bat extension is very important)
  • Save the file to your desktop and double click it to run it.
  • Once it finishes it will open the file it created in notepad, please copy and paste the file's contents into your next reply.
