Windows shuts down MBAM-won't finish Full Scan

Recommended Posts

After finally getting my Desktop computer working again - Thanks Maniac!

My laptop is having the same problem.

During Full scan (quick scan is always fine) Windows shuts down the program.

This was at 1529020 objects scanned - 7+ hrs.

At C:\Program Data\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\production\temp\Wlidui_WLIDSVC\WAIT.GIF

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1720, with Windows Vista Home Premium, Service pack 2.

I have McAfee Virus program & just installed Uniblue Registry Booster.

I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling MBAM.

Thank you in anticipation of your help-again!

Beth

Hi and welcome to Malwarebytes.

Similarly to what you did in you other topic, I would like you to run a disk check.

Click Start, type in cmd.exe; when cmd.exe appears, right-click it and click Run as Admin...

Type in chkdsk /r

Press Enter.

Follow the prompts. When it completes, restart your computer and see if you can run a Full Scan now.

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6002]

C:\Windows\system32>chkdsk /r

The type of the file system is NTFS.

Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another

process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be

checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

FYI

Have checked Y.

Will report back when done.

Hi screen 317, thanks for your Quick Reply!!

Took about seven hours & shut down again.

Seems to be on that same C:\Program Data\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\production\temp\Wlidui_WLIDSVC\ etc

for 5 or 6 hours of the scan.

Doesn't show any infected objects.

Hi Beth,

Please download CCleaner and save it to your desktop.

  • Run the CCleaner installer.
  • During installation process, please UNCHECK "Add CCleaner Yahoo! Toolbar".
  • Please do NOT run a scan yet!

Now, open CCleaner:

  • Click the "Windows" tab.
  • Select the following:
    • Check everything under the "Internet Explorer" section.
    • Check everything under the "Windows Explorer" section.
    • Check everything under the "System" section.
    • Check ONLY "Old Prefetch data" under the "Advanced" section.

    [*]Then, click the "Applications" tab:

    • CHECK everything there.

[*]Next, click the "Options" button in the left pane, then click the "Advanced" button:

    • CHECK : "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours".

[*]Next, click the "Cleaner" button in the left pane, then click the "Run Cleaner" button (bottom right), click "OK" at the prompt.

    [*]When done, please exit CCleaner.

CAUTION: Please do NOT use the "Issues" button in the left pane. This is a built-in registry cleaner. If you don

Hi,

It is likely that McAfee is causing the issue here.

To troubleshoot, I would like you to uninstall it via Add or Remove Programs, then run this removal tool afterward:

Download the McAfee Removal Tool.

Double click on MCPR.exe to launch it, then Click Run. A window should appear and disappear, this is normal. A new window should popup and begin the uninstall. When prompted to reboot your computer type Y.

Restart your computer, run a Full Scan, and see if it completes.

Hi,

I would like you to run another disk check as outlined in Post #2.

After that, navigate to this file:

C:\Program Data\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\production\temp\Wlidui_WLIDSVC\WAIT.GIF

Right-click it and click Cut.

Go to your Desktop. Right-click anywhere and click Paste.

Try running a Full Scan again. Does it still hang? If so, where?

I don't even seem to have Program Data, let alone the rest of the file, even though in previous scans that is where it has been hanging.

In August I did install a Registry Booster & let it "repair". The scans keep saying I have hundreds of repairs or whatever needed. (Are they helpful or not?)

I have not taken any action with it since I have been talking to you though.

Any point running another MBAM Scan yet?
