Cannot access internet

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My problem is with my laptop, an Acer Aspire 3000 on which I have Windows XP Pro which became infected with BankerFox.A.

When the problem popped up I tried to run the Malwarebytes that was on the laptop, but it wouldn't run. Since then I have tried several things.

First, I started it in safe mode with networking, but was not able to connect to the internet.

I tried using a CD with malwarebytes under a fake name, but that would not run. (Just for information purposes, I tried a CD I had with pictures, and that opened okay.) I've gotten the runtime errors 0 and 440 and tried to follow the steps to resolve them using a CD, but the files would not open on my laptop

I tried to follow the steps on the forum that should be done before the cleaning process, as well as trying the other suggestions on the forum, but have been unsuccessful.

When I try to access the internet, I get a message telling me check the firewall settings for ports 80, 443 and 21.

I've spent quite some time reading the forums to find a solution. I have been worried about posting because of conern of violating some etiquette rules. I'm not sure what information I should include and am concerned that I've made more of a mess trying to fix this by myself.

Let me know if you can help. Thanks.
