Avira identified the mbam-setup as:

Virus or unwanted program: 'APPL/Agent.8192.QE [program]'

detected in file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\8Z3ZFUXF\mbam-setup[1].exe.

I just restored a friends computer from one of the nastiest java exploits I have seen in a long time. that lead to a trojan and multiple virues. Completely locked down the OS.

So when I tried to introduce him to malwarebites as a great anti-malware solution , he balked [me too] at the alert. Kinda made me look bad as his free security consultant. :D

At first I thought it possibly could be defenition patterns it was seeing. But he's taking no chances nowadays.

Ignore any and all other programs that may advertise on the page and only click on the Malwarebytes Download -

If you think your version of the program is corrupt in any way use the item below to remove it and install a fresh new copy -

To Fully Remove and Reinstall a Fresh New Copy of Malwarebytes - Read Carefully

Windows XP:

  • Click on Start and select Control Panel
  • Open Add/Remove Programs
  • Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Restart your computer very important !
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from Here

It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so, very important

After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Windows Vista and Windows 7:

  • Click on the Start button and select Control Panel
  • Click on Programs and Features
  • Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Restart your computer very important !
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from Here

Now reset any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications.
