  7. After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here. Remember to enable your Anti-Virus after installation.

Note:

  • You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
  • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version.
  • Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides, especially Section H, posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Please post back if you have further questions.

Thank You :)

Hello! I have this exact same problem, except I have some "Trojans" in my Quarantine. Will I lose them if I uninstall Malwarebytes to install the new version? I suppose I don't need them since they are "Trojans," but I think some are false positives. I haven't needed them so far though for months now. But, also, what will happen to items in Quarantine when I uninstall Malwarebytes? Will they get removed also, or will they remain and I should delete them first before uninstalling Malwarebytes. I suppose my question is really, can I keep them in quarantine AND uninstall the old Malwarebytes to install the latest version so I can update and scan my laptop? Please advise.

@ LSK

If you follow the steps above, yes it will remove your items.

We prefer you follow those steps for a clean install, but if you want to just try to install over the existing version just download the new installer and do an upgrade install.

Download Free Version by clicking on either Link Below:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php

Note: If you have the Pro version, downloading this Free one will not remove your key, it will just update you to the latest version then you can Check for Updates after that.

Okay, thank you. I suppose I will just get rid of the items in quarantine, even the false positives. I will do a clean install, especially since I have been using Chrome to Google the Internet and picked up some tracking cookies and who knows what else from clicking on wrong websites I didn't know were malicious. I will have to go back to using Firefox since it is so much safer (especially with my McAfee Site Advisor that tells me which websites to use). I didn't pick up any bad stuff when I used to use Firefox and even Chrome was fine until recently when I accidentally clicked the wrong websites when searching for celebrity gossip. Thank you again.
