Untrustworthy site database?

Recommended Posts

I run MBAM on my machine and am pretty comfortable (and impressed) by the protection that it offers. However, occasionally when I am on a forum, on Facebook, etc. someone will post a link to another site in a topic. I admit to being more than reasonably paranoid about getting stuff on my computer that shouldn't be there and even though I run MBAM, have CA as my primary virus scan and use the NoScript add-on in Firefox, I was wondering if MBAM had any sort of database list of untrustworthy sites so that I could look up unfamiliar site names before I browse. I do have McAfee site adviser but from what I've heard it can be a little bit unreliable.

Use this site: http://www.robtex.com/ <<- SWISS ARMY KNIFE INTERNET TOOL

Enter the site name you want to check out in the upper left text-box and hit [sEARCH].. If it's in MBAM's database it'll show up as one of the results; the results are from many sources and you can check as many as you wish.

Thank you for the suggestions. I had no trouble using hosts-file.net, but robtrex was a little confusing. If you search something and results turn up at all, then does that mean the site is dangerous?

It will tell you a lot of information about a website, even if the website is safe. Let's look at my website for instance:

http://www.robtex.com/dns/www.gt500.org.html

You will see the following info:

www.gt500.org

Www.gt500.org has one IP number (74.208.12.180) , which is the same as for gt500.org, but the reverse is gt500.org.

Gt500.org, u15286963.onlinehome-server.com, malwarebytes.gt500.org and www.malwarebytes.gt500.org point to the same IP.

gt500.org

Gt500.org is a domain controlled by two name servers at 1and1.com. Both are on the same IP network. The primary name server is ns57.1and1.com. Incoming mail for gt500.org is handled by two mail servers at gt500.org themselves. Both are on the same IP network.

More information

www.gt500.org is hosted on a server in United States.

Trustworthiness, vendor reliability, privacy and child safety of this site is excellent. (more on reputation). It is not listed in any blacklists.Search for gt500.org.

http://www.gt500.org/

There is more after that (below an advertisement), but the important stuff is what I quoted. The most important line that you will want to look for is the one that says "Trustworthiness, vendor reliability, privacy and child safety of this site is excellent. (more on reputation). It is not listed in any blacklists.Search for gt500.org". This means that the website is safe.

I have to admit that I am surprised that no one mentioned Web of Trust (WOT), although that robtex thing does provide links to WOT.

There is yet another site http://www.malware.com.br/index.shtml that I am exploring at the moment

And, of course, there is good old MDL (Malware Domain List):

http://www.malwaredomainlist.com/

Just be careful on MDL. The websites in their database will infect your computer!
