Program Compatibility Assistant

Hello, someone please help me. Everytime i go into windows media player, or itunes, or even AIM, a program compatibility assistant keeps popping up, saying that the programs requires a missing codec. I believe this is from the last virus i deleted from my computer "desktop security" i think it was called. Everytime i try to exit out, i have to force close the program. Someone please tell me how to delete this from my computer.
