I found out about a rogue antivirus that claims to be Avira

So my friend opened an attachment from an friend's email, and it downloaded a rogue antivirus that called itself Avira AntiVir, and wouldn't let him run .exe files because it claimed they were infected. Eventually my friend followed one of the links it kept throwing in his face for him to buy the premium version, and it sent him to spytogeeks.com/avira. Idk iif I'm posting this in the right place, but I thought that the good people here could help get the word out that Avira AntiVir isn't the problem here, this fake Avira AntiVir is. It doesn't sit well with me when a good program gets bad press.

This is a well known rogue, and it does make the real Avira look bad. Unfortunately the only thing we can do is add detection to our database and write articles on these rogues.

One of our researchers has blogged about these a few times, and the official Malwarebytes blogger (Pieter Arntz) has written articles on a couple variants of this rogue as well:
