The Ever Persistant UID Reg Key

Recommended Posts

Seems I got a variation of the Virtumonde virus....

I ran SuperAntiSpyware first, it found some of it. after using mbam, it removed most of the virus and I was able to reboot in normal mode, but most anti-virus web pages (norton, mcafee, superantispyware) were coming up with 404 errors, I could not update the Database's either. So I again restarted in safe mode, saw the UID key was back, and ran Spy Doctor and any other trusted AV software I could come up with.

Now, the computer will start to load in normal mode, but after loading my wallpaper it makes a repetitive "click-tone" for 2-3 seconds and freezes. Safe modes still work OK.

Here are the scan logs:

Hi RAVERFLUFF and welcome to Malwarebytes. Turn off TeaTimer for now.

Open SB S&D

Make sure you are in Advanced Mode. Click on the Mode link at the top of the program and then Advanced Mode.

Click on the Tools section and then Resident.

You will see two items.

1. Resident "SD helper" (Internet Explorer bad download blocker.) active

2. Resident "Tea Timer" (Protection of over-all system settings.) active.

Uncheck number 2..

Leave number 1 checked always.

You can enable Tea Timer again if you wish once all special fixes have been done.

Update MBAM and scan in regular mode. Post that log and a log from HJT in regular mode please.

In regular mode, as in not in safe mode? The computer won't boot in normal mode ;)

Yes, sadly I have, last attempt to boot in normal was only a few hours ago, after updating BMAM again (wow! updates almost ever hour! I like :) )

Same problem, however, loads up to the welcome screen, weird "click tone" (kinda sounds like a frog... never heard that sound before this problem), and then freezes.

In 15 years on being online, I've never seen a virus like this ;)

Thanks for this site, and all your guy's help!, I don't know what I'd do without you....

Dear Diary....

Virus: Day 3

I've tried everything. Downloaded close to 10 trusted AV programs, each seems to find 20-60 infections the other AV programs didn't catch, yet none of them seem to be able to fix the boot problem. Full scans, quick scans, intelli-scans... all proving to do nothing. Most of the files are back as soon as I reboot in safe mode. I am losing all hope ;)

Do not run stuff unless instructed. Most of this stuff mutates to something else once you mess with it we will never get ahead if you keep doing things on your own. Besides we are always ahead of the rest in definitions.

Please download this file: http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe' rel="external nofollow">

SDFix.exe and save it to your desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its

own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe

Mode by doing the following :

* Restart your computer

* After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the

Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;

* Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should

appear;

* Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press

Enter.

* Choose your usual account.

* Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to

start the script.

* Type Y to begin the cleanup process.

* It will remove any Trojan Services or Registry Entries found then prompt

you to press any key to Reboot.

* Press any Key and it will restart the PC.

* When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal

process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and

load your desktop icons.

* Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and

also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt.

* Finally copy and paste the contents of the results file

Report.txt with a new HijackThis log

Reboot your system in Normal Mode. Then post the SDFix log and a new HJT log please.
