C:\System Volume Information is still there. It shows as an empty file. But, if I "cut" the file and "paste" it onto a USB drive, it shows a 64 minute transfer time and starts to move lots of files. Afraid that a move might remove something I need, I stopped the cut & paste.

Any thoughts on how I can get rid of this? Many thanks.

Hi,

Your system restore points are located in C:\System Volume Information. It's normal that you can't open it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Download OTL to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
    :OTL
    :Services
    :Reg
    :Files
    ipconfig /flushdns /c
    :Commands
    [purity]
    [resethosts]
    [emptytemp]
    [emptyflash]
    [clearallrestorepoints]
    [reboot]
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Start Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

  • Once the program has loaded, click the "Update" tab and click the "Check For updates" button.
  • Once the updates were downloaded, click the "Scanner" tab, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.
