Shield on MBAM icon

Just noticed a shield on the MBAM desktop icon. Is it Win7 doing that?

Just to be safe use the method below to install a clean copy of Malwarebytes and when completed run a quick scan -

Windows Vista and Windows 7:

• Click on the Start button and select Control Panel
  
• Click on Programs and Features
  
• Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  
• Restart your computer very important !
  
• Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  

It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so, very important

After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here

Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version only

Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.

Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now reset any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications.

Did you have an infection and then it asked you to restart to remove it?

Can you show us a screen shot of what it looks like? If it is what I think it is, then most likely its normal.

On Vista, there is a four-colored shield on the icons of items that need you to approve the UAC prompts in order to run them successfully. (I hope I am wording this correctly, if I am not, anyone feel free to correct me!)

Of course, if you think you may be infected, please follow Firefox's and noknojon's instructions above!

@ mountaintree16.... thats what I was thinking, if he was infected, and it asked him to restart, then the shield would appear asking to confirm the finishing process of Malwarebytes....

@ All - Exactly - "Just noticed ..." This set the thoughts in motion -

The only thing on my icon is the M and the arrow to show it is a shortcut not a Desktop loaded item -

If they could use the Un/Re installer , Then run a scan , it should show up -

I have both the arrow and the Windows UAC shield on my desktop shortcut icon, at least on my Win7/64 desktop (laptop is powered down at the moment).

I think its normal too. Someone said it was a sign that only admin could run it.

But I do have the Windows UAC "shield" on my desktop shortcut icon for MBAM on my Win 7 /32 laptop, as well.

So, assuming there isn't something else going on with the OP's computer (e.g. infection), the shield on the desktop shortcut icon is normal, I presume.

(My *system tray* icon, however, is just the red square M, as it should be....)

Funny thing was that it was a normal icon then changed. Dunno if its because i dumbed down UAC later on.

Thanks! I didn't have a screenshot. That's (almost) how the icon looks on the Vista machine that I look after (looks a little different on Vista if I am remembering correctly).

I wouldn't advise dumbing down UAC, personally. If I had W7, I would have it cranked all the way up for maximum security.

I'm an educator, so it's quite indispensable for preparing PPT presentations and all manner of educational materials. I barely scratch the surface of its capabilities, but it's definitely worth every penny!

I'm glad that you've found a screen capture program that works so well for you!

I only need to take screen shots for simple tasks so I use print screen & paint, but if I would ever like to use a program for it, I'll keep the one you told me about in mind. Thank you
