about:SecurityRisk

Recommended Posts

This is getting annoying. It seems a lot of people have this symptom, but none of them are being attacked this way.

Every time I open IE8 I get the about:SecurityRisk page stating...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Your security setting level puts your computer at risk

We recommend that you do not browse the web with your current security settings.

To fix this, click on the Information Bar above, and choose Fix Settings for Me.

To continue browsing in the current state, click the Home button (not recommended)."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clicking the infomation bar this is creating pulls up a window asking me to OK an automated "correction" to my security settings. After a while of being damn annoyed by this I click OK and let it do whatever it's trying. Then I go to my security settings to see that level slider is gone and I have to reset my settings to default to get it back.

One time I forgot to go and set my settings to default. I left the computer and a few hours later I walked by to see a warning window had popped up informing me that "MalwareBytes is a virus, click OK to delete it." NO WAY! I tried opening task manager but like any malware, it wouldn't allow me. I managed to stop it from deleting my malwarebytes and immsaw that a fake security program had installed itself and was downloading half a gig of crap into my desktop and who knows where else. It wouldn't alow me to stop the download so I yanked the LAN cable out of my PC(That's why I don't use wireless). Malwarebytes eventually DID get rid of all the malware and I had to go through and delete a bunch of porn and casino shortcuts all over the place.

Well, here it is two weeks later and I'm getting that same security warning. Why isn't Malwarebytes(Or any other anti-malware for that matter) detecting whatever little bug that causing all this?
