Help Installing MBAM

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I've suggested my bro (who lives in Japan) to install MBAM on his computer as a extra-security measure in addition to his Avira AntiVir Premium. The case is he can't install MBAM because its .exe installer (once executed) shows scrambled letters (mixed russian and japanese text) instead of regular english language. He never had any problem trying and installing "english" programs before.

Any ideas??? :)

Welcole MelFan (and bro) -

Can you find out what language the computer is set to, especially when he tries to load the program -

The problem can occur when your system is set to one language and a program is set to another -

Mine picks up many Chinese untranslated programs as mostly square blocks and a few squiggles ~~```~~`[][][] for example -

Thank You -

Hi Again -

Although we have translations into many languages , unfortunately Japanese is not one of our current listed translations -

The computer would need to be set in English and the scans "may" need to be done in the same language -

This may be confirmed or not by a site Moderator / Administrator -

Thank You -

Unfortunately Japanese is not among the languages that Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware version 1.46 supports. However, as long as English language fonts are installed, the installer is supposed to ask what language should be used when it runs for the first time. I am not certain if the installer will do this in English on a system that is running an unsupported language, or if it will break due to the fact that the language is unsupported (that certainly sounds like it may be the issue here).

It should be possible to bypass language selection and run it entirely in English (once again as long as English language fonts are installed) by adding the following registry entry:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware]
"language"="english.lng"

Hi GT500,

It was impossible to try the registry workaround on my bro's computer since he was unable to fix the fonts issue to install MBAM in the first place. However, finally I managed to guide him through a step-by-step install process in real time, reproducing myself the installation steps from my place of living. Then, when he finally got MBAM installed (with scrambled fonts anyway), I directed him to the program's 'Settings' tab and switch to english from the 'Language' drop-down menu. Success at last.

I hope this workaround can be helpful to others that face this issue in the future.

Thank you All Folks!
