Remote administration issues (psexec)

Recommended Posts

I am trying to execute a malwarebytes' scan on a remote windows7 machine. Here is what I am doing:

cmdkey.exe /add:<targetname> /user:<username> /pass:<password>

- add my admin credentials to the machine, wont work on windows 7 without this

psexec \\machine -u user -p pass -d "C:\program files\malwarebytes' anti-malware\mbam.exe" /scan -quick -log -silent

I then get the following error:

PsExec could not start C:\program files\malwarebytes' anti-malware\mbam.exe on machine: The system cannot find the file specified

What I have noticed:

1. The program won't execute unless i use " " on the directory path

2. the -w "C:\program files\malwarebytes' anti-malware\" mbam.exe switch doesn't work

3. It works fine on a windows XP machine

Any ideas? I am thinking maybe moving the file and trying to execute the program from like C:\mbam.exe or something to see if its something with the " " and spaces in the path name.

Thank you for any help

Curious why you would want to do a remote scan like that in the first place. As a licensed installation the program has a built-in scheduler that can do updates, and scans any time you want and as often as you want silently and without any user intervention.

Also having and running both the Website IP blocking and File protection module running help to prevent infections from getting on the system in the first place.

Just yesterday my Wife came home and was telling me how someone she had not written to in years sent her an email so she opened it and clicked the link at work and it took her to some site with Viagra and other similar advertising. We opened her email at home and I clicked the link and MBAM immediately blocked the site. Her work computer is managed by McAfee and Webroot and perimeter firewalls on a 100,000 workstation Enterprise company and they were not able to stop that site but MBAM did.

It's much easier to use the protection module and help prevent infections than having to scan after the fact and clean up the mess that Malware makes.
