question about failure to update malwarebytes

I was having trouble updating malwarebytes. It raised an error:

MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING (12150,0, winhttpqueryheaders)

I eventually fixed it when I read I was supposed to run:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]

"ProxyServer"=-

"ProxyEnable"=-

"ProxyOverride"=-

as a *.reg

Its fixed for now, but I was wondering what do you think happened? Why wasn't it updating? And what if it happens again? Is it a virus, or did I just break my computer?

Hi and Welcome -

It can be caused by a minor infection that upsets your internet settings -

Update the progran now (if you can) , any problems with updates let us know , then run a quick scan only -

If you would like you can post the Malwarebytes scan result only , here if something is shown , or if it is clean I would not worry -

This may help in resetting your internet connection if you have other problems -

• Open Internet Explorer
  
• Note: It MUST be Internet Explorer, not Firefox, Opera, Chrome or any other internet browser
  
• Click on Tools at the top and select Internet Options
  
• Note: If you do not see Tools, press the Alt key on your keyboard and it will show up
  
• Click on the Connections tab
  
• Click on the LAN settings button
  
• Under Automatic configuration make sure that the box next to Automatically detect settings is checked, if it is not, then click the box next to it to check it
  
• Click on the OK button to close the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings window
  
• Click on the OK button to close the Internet Options window
  
• Use this diagram as a guide
  
• Try updating Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware again -

Updated by turning off firewall (Symantec Corporate Edition)
