IE extremely slow after install of MBAM

I have installed and continued to update (I think) MBAM 1.22.0.0. Since the installation and removal of many different malawares My PC and the 3 others I have installed on have become extremely slow for internet connectivity using both IE6 and 7 and Opera. OS is XP sp2, XP sp3 and XP media Center. I can connect with Google as the start page then the system just crawls on links. I believe I did see someplace here that this had been an issue but I can't seem to find the resolution(s). Can someone point me in the right dierction to solve these issues?
