Another update problem

Recommended Posts

I have a laptop with Windows 7 on it and using Norton 360 Version 4.2.0.12. I've downloaded Malwarebytes (free version), and it scans fine, but will not update - I get error message 12007. I've now modified Norton as Malwarebytes experts suggest to add the 5 Malwarebytes program Scan Exclusions (actually added in the section titled "Real Time Protection Exclusions", which I believe is the correct place for them), but that doesn't help. I then removed Malwarebytes, shut down my PC, and then reinstalled Malwarebytes. Still no success with updates. Any suggestions to help me with this would be much appreciated.

Welcome to Malwarebytes!

Please use this method to Un/Re install Malwarebytes - You must fully remove any old traces of the program if it is faulty -

Windows Vista and Windows 7:

  • Click on the Start button and select Control Panel
  • Click on Programs and Features
  • Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Restart your computer very important !
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from Here

It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so, very important

After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version only

Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.

Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now reset any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications.

You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask me and I'll explain how to do it.

Thank You - :D Post back & tell us how things went ....

Yardbird,

I did every thing you prescribed, and still I get the 12007 error and no update. To confirm I did the right things when I downloaded Malwarebytes, I disabled Norton by unchecking the firewall on the Settings page and I turned off "Auto Protect" and "SONAR Protection" on the Antivirus settings page.

Any more suggestions?
