TDSS rootkit in "atapi"

Recommended Posts

Hi! Yesterday my computer got infected with "Doctor Malware" (or so I think it was called). I have had one nasty attack before, and thus have a bunch of tools installed already, just in case.

These tools are Malwarebytes AntiMalware, TDSSkiller (from last winter, more about this later), Avira, SUPERantispyware and rkill. Together they worked like a charm last time. This time not so much.

I have finally gotten rid of all of the crap that ended up on my computer, but one thing. There is a TDSS rootkit in the "atapi" driver file. TDSSkiller says it will terminate the rootkit on restart but the rootkit is still there after rebooting. I have tried several times (at least 8 to 10 times).

The current status of my PC is that everything runns smooth, but every now and then a page redirects to someplace unknown. So the TDSSkiller does not give a false positive.

After reading on the net I got the idea to downlad the latest version of TDSSkiller. I did so, but now to something bad: It won't run! The old version runs as it should but does not clean the infection. The new version can't run due to "driver load error!" Yes, I have two versions on my computer right now.

I have also run Hijackthis but stumble across another problem (The second program that won't run properly...) I get the following message: "An unexpected error has occured at procedure modMain_StartScan() Error #5 - invalid procedure call or argument."

I still get a logfile though, and post it below.

Any help would be much appreciated. Formatting the computer won't be all that bad, but if possible I'd like to avoid it.

Cheers.
