full scan and file scan different results

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

thought i would just try the free version of the program and was a bit concerened when it picked up a few backdoor.dat and stolen data references. I regularly scan with avast and some online scanners ( kaspersky, trend micro)

The thing is if I go to the file that MWB says is infected then right click and select scane with MWB the file comes up clean and shows no infection. I have uploaded the files to virusscan.jotti.org and they come up clean.

Are these files likely to be infected or not and how come the 2 differing results on the scanning?

thanks

These scan options use different parameters, thus the differences.

thanks for the replies,

Noknojon, I had malwarebytes put the offending files into quarintine and scanned again and everything came up clear. Should I be ok?

before cleaning with malwarebytes I scanned with Norton and avast and both didn't find a thing but then I also downloaded superantispyware and that found the same as malwarebytes.

The netbook seems to be running fine with the files in quarantine so is it ok to delete them?

Not sure how i picked them up as don't surf any way out sites and have avast running and PC tools firewall and wireless router firewall too.

If I purchase malwarebytes does the real time protectiona actually stop malware getting on to your pc to start with? I am impressed enough with the free version to upgrade.

thanks for your time
