Slugglish computer, links not working, can't close IE

Recommended Posts

My son is leaving for college in a few days. We bought a used Dell D610 laptop which had been wiped clean and loaded with Microsoft XP Pro 2002 SP2 plus Microsoft Office 2007 Software. It worked great at first, but in the last couple of weeks, it has gotten very slow in general. At random times, clicking on links in email or web pages does not work ... the clock ticks like it is loading but nothing happens. Also at random times, it will not let us close an IE 6.0 window without doing ctrl-alt-delete. I'm thinking we have a virus or spyware or malware or something and am open to any suggestions. Thanks!

Hi Jean ... thanks for your quick response. I ran the Spybot Search and Destroy first and it found/removed 19 spyware files. I also ran the other 3 listed and the logs are posted below in this order: MBAM, Panda ActiveScan, HiJack This. Thanks!
