MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING(120xx) thing...help

Recommended Posts

Hi;

I'm back here again after a long time. Been away due to unsolved updates problem. Haven't bought Mbam Pro either due to this.

Re-installed Mbam free on the old pc and again it does not update and I get the MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING(120xx) thing.

Have not been able to update until now after 5 re-installs following your guides here.

The old pc is on a dial-up connection. It used to go fine with Mbam before and it was where I 1st used and liked Mbam till I bought a new machine(don't use Mbam in the new one...was a former topic post here). Did also the tips on the former post. link_1

I was only able to scan by copying the rules.ref from a friends computer :D Database version: 4273.

I see that it takes time to scan and it's longer that the "fast scans" I used to have before on this old pc. During the updating process it connects slow but starts, came up close to 75% then dropped back to 0% before getting the dreaded error. Please see images.

Will help if you guys really have an "updated rules.ref" for download so we the users who cannot update or have eternal problems updating will have no problem staying updated. I mean an "UPDATED-rules.ref" as in what you can get in updating Mbam. Not the "days-delayed rules.ref".

The old http://www.gt500.org/malwarebytes/database.jsp got a 404 Not Found. http://mbam.malwarebytes.org/database/mbam-rules.exe is working.

AV and other malware/spyware security companies have it and "is" an option as manual upating for those that want to stay updated but with no internet connection at the moment or like something like this errors happen.

I used to wonder the reason why...... :D

Anyway, what more can I do? :)

Hi;

I tried with different DNS servers yesterday other than what my ISP uses.

Google DNS who is 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 went on to connect very slow. It went on "Connecting to server.." It went round and round, re-starting again only to have the dreaded error again. Much lke my ISP.

Comodo DNS who is 156.154.70.1/156.154.71.1 went on to connect average but went on to finish the update. I had updated from Database: 4273 to 4290. After 5 hours I tried again but had the error again.

Open DNS who 208.67.222.222 / 208.67.220.220 went to connect much faster. Was able to update from 4273 to 4290 yesterday before I got tired and rested. Today, I updated again to 4293.

Tried all the exclusions/settings/ping/registry checks/disabling all security/uninstalling security software/Mbam clean uninstalls/re-installs..it wore me down to see the same posts...wore me down trying all of it also that for a time I stopped using Mbam.

Just some points to share here that may help someone like me. In my posts I mentioned I was using a dial-up connection but there was no comment on it and the concentration wasn't on connections or what can I do to the connection I am using.

To check further today I used a broadband connection of my same ISP with their DNS settings and it was hit and miss much like Comodo DNS though faster of course. Google DNS was the same. With Open DNS it was the same and no misses at all.

I'll use again the dial-up set-up and check it all again to see and verify my first results. I hope an idea may develop in some of the guys that have my same problem here to check other than the "....exclusions/settings/ping/registry checks/disabling all security/uninstalling security software/Mbam clean uninstalls/re-installs.."

It's something like the updates is going somewhere in the vicinity of the "....Avira Antivir Personnal update problem which wore down loyal users to go use Avast free instead..." but is still far fetched...or dial-up users are left out on the loop or something..

Anyway, I'l check further. Some poor newbie here or someone may benefit or have an idea that will develop into a fix or something...

ALSO and AGAIN, I'll post this one:

Hi;

I'd like to share that it is with "only" OpenDNS that I can update Mbam. I had misses when the update server changes. Once it changes then you will get the dreaded error. In 3 days updating trial I have managed to update only with OpenDNS. GoogleDNS and ComodoDNS was zero.

Had 3x errors with OpenDNS also when as I've said the servers change. I get to update ony at data-cdn.mbamupdates.com and not with edge.data-cdn.mbamupdates.com and the other llnw.data-cdn.mbamupdates.com something....Once the servers change it's 100% I'll get the error and the update will fail.

I'd appreciate some comments on this.

What about the updated-manual-updates?

Thank you.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi;

Just want to update on this post.

Have been having good continous updates for the past 1+week using OpenDNS. No other DNS server was or has provided me with continous updates. The error is gone for now. I used both wireless DSL and dial-up on all the trials I did.

Thanks!
