Avira vs Kaspersky?

Hello MB Users,

I have been using Avira for years now,

In the past I used Norton, McAfee, NOD32

But once I had moved to Avira I was happy for life as it seemed to have great detection rate.

But Kaspersky seems to be on the uprise has anyone here used Avira and Kaspersky if so what one do you think is the best?

Greetings :P

In my personal experience they both have excellent detection rates and are my 2 favorite AV's. I personally prefer Kaspersky simply because it offers greater control and detail on detected threats and has more behavioral detection capabilities that go beyond normal heuristics and definitions detection capabilities.

It's really down to user preference though, as I've known many who didn't like the rather complex uers interface sported by current versions of Kaspersky, which certainly does take some getting used to.

I would stick with Avira. I've tried Kaspersky Internet Security which only slowed things down. Personally I wasn't overly impressed with it. The only way for my system to work was shutting off the real-time protection. After that everything seemed fine. Caused to much freezing and slow downs.

But then again Avira seems to have it's own drawbacks. It seems they often change the updater causing the free users to not get updates and they recommend to install the premium trial until everything is resolved. Why they keep changing that on a regular basis is beyond me. Thats why I got rid of it. Good detection rate, but lousy upkeep.

The best thing is to go with what your comfortable with.:P

4 listed - 3 good and 1 that I would not use - Personal opinion only -

I moved to MSE as my option since the 'free trial' of Kaspersky only lasted 3 months -

Prior to that I used Avira -

That was indeed an issue with the previous version (2010), but it seems to be resolved in the current (2011) version. KIS is also different from KAV and has far more components thus increasing the potential for conflicts, in fact, thanks to its inclusion of a firewall, it's a borderline HIPS application, something I personally steer clear of.
