Seriously Awful

Recommended Posts

Your website blocker has got to be the worst one I've ever experienced.

It blocks sites without my permission, not only that, but you can't unblock them manually in any way.

Then you suggest that we just post the IP that is blocked on this website.

There couldn't be a worse solution, that would take forever, do you have any idea how many websites this program is wrongfully blocking?

You should either fix your website blocker to block only KNOWN attack sites, and those only,

or remove the feature ENTIRELY.

I recommend the second option.

It truly pisses me off that I have no control over what the program blocks, it's just as bad as malware itself, the hypocrisy.

Even if I add the blocked IP to the ignore list, it continues to block the IP.

Awful, there is no excuse for this.

I'm uninstalling my registered version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and if it continues to block sites, there will be something done.

We're glad to see you're concerned about false\positives, please post all these websites into the forum below so they can be corrected if we deem required.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=42

We appreciate when users take the time to point these out to us. With as many IPs and websites are out there, it's difficult to keep up, even though we work on it 24\7 with dedicated systems and processes.

I look forward to your post and I'm sure our IP tech will be glad to resolve any alleged false\positives.

Hello,

Just a FYI, there's no need to uninstall and still you can go to the site - read and follow the method in this post. Also, you need to flush the DNS cache (please read the post exile360 below for more information.)

http://hosts-file.net/default.asp?s=Rune-Server.org

I believe the reason of the block of the site is mainly because the is on NetDirect ranges (I think MysteryFCM, one of the Malwarebytes' staff on the IP matter, will post something similar to the following again...). MysteryFCM will try his best to answer as soon as possible, and that will be the authority answer from Malwarebytes.

Even more, by the information of screen317 at the posts below, it seems it is not possible there will be an unblock of the IP...

78.159.109.44 currently lies within a NetDirect range.
No problem. I'd advise they move hosting if at all possible.
Usually, sitting within a range isn't a problem, but NetDirect ranges have a history of malicious activity, with NetDirect themselves doing next to nothing, to prevent it, and being far too slow to take down malicious content reported to them (when they actually bother doing anything at all that is).

Thanks :)

Further Edit - adding comments of Samuel and Chris in the post.

But even when the IP was on the ignore list, it continued to block it, and after I ignored it, I couldn't trigger a block again, it just blocked without permission.

You need to understand that every security program suffers from false positives.

There are many sites to look up that address on. It can be done quickly.

Like I said no one security software is perfect. Everyone suffers from these issues. Most likely it's on a domain related to such issues.

Malwarebytes' doesn't unblock certain addresses on domains unless they can be sure that the site in question is not related to other known sites on that particular domain.

Please be aware this is a public site and such language shouldn't be used. Thanks.

Would you rather have malware that steals your financial info or something over sensitive? I would choose the later.

Sometimes it's necessary to clear the DNS cache in order to visit a site once it's been ignored or the IP blocker has been disabled, not because Malwarebytes' is still blocking the site, but because Windows still has the previous path to the IP (ie, to nothing, webpage cannot be displayed etc) in cache. Sometimes a simple refresh of the page does it, but sometimes it requires closing and reopening the browser or clearing the browser cache.

That's not the point; Jagex has an EULA;

Note the underlined portion. Supporting private servers is akin to supporting any other illegal activity..

To be clear, not blocking a site is not the same as supporting or endorsing that site or it's activities. MBAM's focus is to protect people's computers against threats, and this IP/Website probably got on the list because there was some reasonable threat coming from that site. If the site has been listed in the false positive forums (which I believe it has been) then it will be reviewed for delisting by our research staff.
