exile360 #1 Posted August 1, 2008 Is RR still in development at all? I've noticed it hasn't been updated (program or database) in a very long time and when you released the new version of MBAM with the updated zlib.dll, which RR also uses, it got no update. I was just wondering if it's only use now would be for the immunization/removal of older rogue programs, or if it will be updated to detect newer threats in the future. RubbeR DuckY #2 Posted August 1, 2008 The problem with newer rogue applications is they employ the use of stronger malware to stay embedded in the system. RogueRemover has never been effective against these rogues. It can prevent the installation of many of them, but can not help with removal. To answer your question, RogueRemover the application will no longer be updated but the database will be. exile360 #3 Posted August 2, 2008 Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks a lot for the info and keep fighting the good fight.
Tarun #4 Posted August 2, 2008 That's a shame, because while testing some (rogue) software that was literally advertised on tv RogueRemover found it and MBAM didn't touch on it at all.
exile360 #5 Posted August 5, 2008 MBAM probably didn't get it because they were older rogues (just a guess) which I seem to remember reading that the older ones detected by RR would not be added to MBAM's defs.
Tarun #6 Posted August 5, 2008 Which is a shame, because the malware that RogueRemover found and removed was some that was in a tv advertisement (Finally Fast). So I can easily see that as being a threat since it's been advertised on tv in recent months.
