oh the problems!

Recommended Posts

It all started when i kept getting redirected from yahoo and google to other, random, sites. Somewhere i found a thread that said i should download Malwarebytes and it would fix the problem. I did that and scanned. It found 7 items. I selected them all, and hit the remove button. thought i was in the clear. After hte restart, I opened firefox again anlow and behold my problem wasn't fixed. Ran Malwarebytes again and low and behold the 7 items are still there.

That was a few days ago, and after being too frustrated to try and find another solution it has apparently gotten worse. Now, when i try to open nearly any new page, I get a server can not be found page. but when i go to pages that are in my history and then different pages it seems to work. For example, why i type in www.malwarebytes.org and hit enter it will give me a "Server not found" error. but when i go to google, it'll bring up google with no problems. I then do a search for Malwarebytes and it'll bring up the results, click on malwarebytes.org and the Server not found error. Oh and yes those 7 items that Malwarebytes first found are still there. below is the log file from Malwarebytes.

So i pulled out the ol' laptop and came here. I have found a a few threads that started with the same problems that i had, should i just follow their thread and do what is suggested in there? or can someone help me from start?

Oh and i can't get to this page on my desktop. I'll have to transfer, or email, whatever files i need to dl from my laptop to my desktop.

Thanks in advance.

Drew

Step 1

Please, uninstall the following applications:

  1. Adobe Reader 9.2

You can read, how to this here:

Step 2

Please go into the Control Panel, Add/Remove and for now remove ALL versions of JAVA

Then run this tool to help cleanup any left over Java

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.

***Please close any instances of Internet Explorer (or other web browser) before continuing!***

  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select.
  • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location and post it back when you reply
Then look for the following Java folders and if found delete them.
    C:\Program Files\Java
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java
    C:\Windows\Sun
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Java
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sun\Java
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Java
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Sun\Java

Step 3

Your database version of MBAM is 4052 , but the current is 4258 , so:

  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Go to "Update" tab and select "Check for Updates". If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Go to "Scanner" tab and select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

In your next reply, please include these log(s):

  1. JavaRa log
  2. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware log
  3. a new fresh DDS log only

As soon as i hit the check for updates button a window pops up and says

an error has occured. Please report this error code to our support team.

MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING (12007,0,WinHttpSendRequest).

I finally got an email back from them and they said make sure that my firewall was allowing the program to access the internet.

I have Norton Security Suite, I added (and allowed access) the to files they wanted me to, and i am still getting the same error. I told this to their tech person and am waiting for a reply.
