Recommended Posts

Sothis is Robertodole, typing for his little bro Kingalsha, and geez is this computer messed up. Installed Comodo and Malwarebytes today, ran malwarebytes and it found 297 infections (or something 295+ at least)! Ran DDS, log is below (and attach.txt is attached). Tried to run GMER, but comp just restarted in the middle :-\

Hello kingalsha! Welcome to Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Forums!

My name is Borislav and I will be glad to help you solve your problems with malware. Before we begin, please note the following:

  • The process of cleaning your system may take some time, so please be patient.
  • Follow my instructions step by step if there is a problem somewhere, stop and tell me.
  • Stay with the topic until I tell you that your system is clean. Missing symptoms does not mean that everything is okay.
  • Instructions that I give are for your system only!
  • If you don't know or can't understand something please ask.
  • Do not install or uninstall any software or hardware, while work on.
  • Keep me informed about any changes.

Step 1

Please, uninstall the following applications:

  1. Adobe Reader 9.3.2
  2. IObit Security 360

You can read, how to this here:

Step 2

Please go into the Control Panel, Add/Remove and for now remove ALL versions of JAVA

Then run this tool to help cleanup any left over Java

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.

***Please close any instances of Internet Explorer (or other web browser) before continuing!***

  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select.
  • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location and post it back when you reply
Then look for the following Java folders and if found delete them.
    C:\Program Files\Java
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java
    C:\Windows\Sun
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Java
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sun\Java
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Java
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Sun\Java

Step 3

  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Go to "Update" tab and select "Check for Updates". If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Go to "Scanner" tab and select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

In your next reply, please include these log(s):

  1. MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware log
  2. JavaRa log
  3. a new fresh DDS log only

Hey Borislav, my little brother is away at our cousin's house, but I tried to follow your instructions, and I ran into a problem. Internet explorer always gives the message "Internet Explorer can't display the page" no matter what site we go to. We used to be able to work around this because whenever windows would start, Iobit would ask to update, which if we clicked yes it would open up Iobit's webpage. Now that I've uninstalled it, I can't surf the web on that computer, which means I can't download JavaRa, and also that I can't post logs from that computer (by the way, I'm posting from the laptop you helped me fix, and I'm not going to email files to this computer to upload them when i basically know for certain that they're infected, since I don't want my laptop to get infected as well). So... what should I do now?

By the way, just as a note, My brother's account was set to save his password on the other computer, so I'll only be able to access the KingAlsha name when my brother gets back or when that computer regains the ability to surf the web.

Of course I figure out how to fix the connection problem just after typing about how i cant get around it (connection had been set to use a proxy), and now I've deleted the cookies on this comp, so i wont be able to log in as KingAlsha until I can call my little bro (maybe in 12 hours, if I'm at the computer then). So here are the logs you wanted:

**Note: If you need more detailed information, please visit the web page of ComboFix in BleepingComputer. **

Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate.

Stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms diminish. Lack of symptoms does not always mean the job is complete.

Kindly follow my instructions and please do no fixing on your own or running of scanners unless requested by me or another helper.

Please download ComboFix from

Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop**

  1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
    • Open Tools -> Options -> Main tab
    • Set to Always ask me where to Save the files.

[*]During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

CF_download_FF.gif

CF_download_rename.gif

When I run Combo-Fix, it asks which user I'd like to run the program as (which is odd since this computer only has one user and I didn't click "Run as..."). It also has a checkbox for "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity", a checkbox that I unchecked, since I figured combofix needed the freedom to do what it had to do. A progress bar comes up with the title "combofix," and once the bar loads completely, an error comes up that says "Installation failed", followed by a prompt saying "Windows cannot open the file nircmd.cfxxe. Would you like to search for a program online, or select a program from a list?" Both of these windows disappear on their own, though there is time to click on them if I wanted to. Combofix then just closes, so I don't have a combofix log :-\

First time I tried to run combofix an error came up about something that couldn't install (and combofix opened twice) but i just closed out of the error, ended task on the 2 combofixes running and started another one, here's the log:

ComboFix insisted that Comodo was running, but it definitely wasn't. It restarted the computer, and the logfile took forever to come up.

My work is to clean your PC from malware. For better perfomance you need to upgrade your hardware - RAM, CPU and etc.

ESET Online Scanner

Note: You can use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox for this scan. You will however may need to disable your current installed Anti-Virus, how to do so can be read here.

  • Please go here then click on: EOLS1.gif
  • Select the option YES, I accept the Terms of Use then click on: EOLS2.gif
  • When prompted allow the Add-On/Active X to install.
  • Now click on Advanced Settings and select the following:

    • Remove found threats
    • Scan archives
    • Scan for potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth Technology

[*]Now click on: EOLS3.gif

[*]The virus signature database... will begin to download. Be patient this make take some time depending on the speed of your Internet Connection.

[*]When completed the Online Scan will begin automatically.

[*]Do not touch either the Mouse or keyboard during the scan otherwise it may stall.

[*]When completed select Uninstall application on close if you so wish, make sure you copy the logfile first!

[*]Now click on: EOLS4.gif

[*]Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt.

[*]Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.

Note: Do not forget to re-enable your Anti-Virus application after running the above scan!

Good! :P

Last steps:

Step 1

* Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /uninstall

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /

Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Step 2

Please manually delete JavaRa, DDS and GMER.

Step 3

Please uninstall ESET Online Scanner.

Step 4

Please download and install the latest version of Adobe Reader from:

www.adobe.com

About Java:

www.java.com/en

Step 5

Some malware preventions:

http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=9365

For slow computers:
