MB won't scan

My system: Win 7 Pro, 64 bit; Vipre AV/ASPY; Threatfire. I'm the Administrator/only user of my PC. I've been using free version of Malwarebytes since June 11,2010 without any problems. All of a sudden on June 25 MB won't scan and I get the following message:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item".

I'm not having any other problems with system (lots of software reinstalled from XP Pro system). Complete scans: no viruses/infections.

MB runs fine in Safe Mode. Have uninstalled/reinstalled MB several times- Permissions problem remains.

Would sure appreciate feedback/help. Thank you.

Hi -

I have a small list of items that may help you - Please check your Antivirus (as below) to see if it allows Malwrebytes to run -

For those using VIPRE PREMIUM and having problems with V1.46 updating, here is one fix.

  • Open VIPRE
  • Click Web Filter Settings
  • Click Allowed Web Sites
  • Add "data-cdn.mbamupdates.com" (without the quotes)
  • click OK
  • Close VIPRE

Now MBAM V1.46 should run and update normally.

Thanks noknojon for the suggestion. I use Vipre but not Premium so unfortunately that won't help me. I continue to have the same problem and I've tried installing 1.44, 1.45 & 1.46. My wife is running 1.46 with no problem on her laptop (Win 7 Home Premium, 32 bit).
