Can someone help me with a virus please

Recommended Posts

I have used malwarebytes for ages without any infections but today my laptop froze up after startup so I tried malwarebytes and got runtime error /0, I then booted up in safe mode and could not run any scans with malwarebytes or norton so after looking around I found a topic to change the malwarebytes file name and it eventually worked and I scanned my laptop and it came up with dont.steal.our.software and I don`t know how it got there or how to get rid of it.

I have never stole any software so can`t understand what this is can anyone help me get rid of this.

Hello celts1888 -

You have not stolen any items from any person -

Please post the copy of the log that found the dont.steal.our.software item here so I can Double Check the problem First -

I think this may be a new Rogue Infection that will most likely ask for money from you -

Leave a copy of the log first for us to examine prior to starting the removal process -

Please follow the instructions below and we can start cleaning your system -

As we don't work on Malware removal or diagnostics in the general forums please follow these directions -

Please print out, read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.

After posting your new post make sure under options that you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post - Please allow at least 48 hours for a reply as the experts can get busy at times -

Also add a brief note to the experts as to your problems -

Alternatively, as a paying customer, you can contact the help desk at support@malwarebytes.org

Always use the ADD REPLY Tab at the bottom of the page when you reply -

Thank You - ;)

hello,

I just want to add a few words here.

You can go to the "Logs" tab and click the logs. The logs will then open. Please paste the whole log(s) that states the files as "dont.steal.our.software".

Please do what noknojon asked to do.

Edit - deleting sentences about asking information and adding an instruction of getting the scan logs.

Hi and thanks for the replies, I was at my wits end all day yesterday and decided to re-install my windows vista from my cd as I just could not get rid of this virus, it kept freezing 2 mins after start up and I had to manually reboot and start in safe mode this went on all day getting nowere fast so decided to do a clean install.

Will the virus still be there or not?

Doing a full scan now will update, this is the 3rd install of my vista in 2 weeks as last time SP1 would not install so had to re-install again as it was freezing all the time as well so hopefully this time is the last.

... so decided to do a clean install. Will the virus still be there or not?

A clean install will provide a virus-free platform to use (and remember to install the SPs (SP 1 first, then SP 2) and antivirus after the clean install ;) )

Please post back whether there are any problems after the full scan.

Thanks :o

edit -

Do you keep the old scan logs that MBAM says the file as "dont.steal.our.software"?
