Hi

I have purchased Malwarebytes mainly for the real-time protection. However, it is not working for me.

I use Windows Vista Business edition. I use only 1 AV - AVG 8.5. I use only 1 anti-malware - Malwarebytes V 1.46. I have restarted since paying for Malwarebytes.

I have read and followed all the advice in section H of the "Common Issues, Questions, and their Solutions, Frequently Asked Questions" post at:

http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?s...p;p=167851&

So, AVG has a list of files it should ignore.

The problem is when I start Malwarebytes it works fine, however when I click the protection tab and then scheduler tab and then click the Scheduler button I get an error "[OpenSCManager] Failed to perform desired action. Error Code: 5". A few seconds later the scheduler window opens up underneath the error message:

Then, when I OK the error message and press "Add" on the scheduler window, another error message appears "MBAM_ERROR_SCHEDULER_ADD (5, 0, ScheduleTask) Access is denied":

I am logged in as a normal user, not an admin.

Oh, and every so often, when not doing anything particular, it pops up with"[OpenEvent] Failed to perform desired action. Error Code: 2":

Would appreciate some pointers, thanks :P

Hi maidbloke -

First update your AVG to Version 9 which should be the current version - Then read This Topic on AVG in the FAQ area -

It should include these exclusions for AVG -

Please exclude the following files from your antivirus:

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude them from it as well

For Windows XP:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

For Windows Vista or Windows 7

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\SysWoW64\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE from it as well

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:

data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

The FAQ contains examples of setting file exclusions for some known AV products

Can you do a Manual update ? and check if you have current Version 4242 as there have been several updates recently -

Please post back and let us know how it went -

Thank You - ;)

EDIT -

I am still looking at Error code 2 - I will post back later -

M/soft in this article seems to ask you to check in Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager to see if any Device is needing drivers updated ??

Well worth a try first - Post back if you need help with that -

Greetings ;)

In order to install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware properly it must be installed from an administrative user account and scheduled scans and updates will either need to be created from an admin account or you will need to right-click on Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware's shortcut and select Run as administrator to be able to set up your scheduled items.
