Youtube Downloader: Safe?

Just today, I searched google for a youtube downloader. I used a link that McAfee site advisor tagged as safe and then clicked from that page to the downloader site, a site that I'm 99% sure I've used before to download things like MBAM and Super-Anti Spyware, so I'm pretty sure it's safe. However, when running the installation program for the youtube downloader, MBAM blocked a malicious IP. I didn't catch the IP (I can provide it if someone can tell me if there's a second that records the recently blocked IPs on my machine). The main thing, though, is that I'm not sure if it was a specific add on that site that was red-flagged as malicious (I have had this happened where the site itself is safe but MBAM goes off because an add from a disreputable site comes up) or if the program I attempted to download was dangerous. Also, I was wondering if there was a way to tell what specifically is being blocked when an IP is being blocked? This way, I can know whether or not I need to navigate away from the page that I'm on ASAP or if it was just an add that was blocked and that I just shouldn't click on that add.

First of all I do not use McAfee site advisor as it is un-reliable and even has known malware sites rated Green

I prefer Finjan SecureBrowsing

I also use hpHosts files that blocks a lot of download.cnet.com adverts and tracking like adlog.com.com

The blocked IP will be stored in MBAM logs C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs in the current protection-log-2010-06-21

If said website is unsafe, does anyone know where I can find a safe youtube downloader?

I hate to double post but no one has an answer for this? Nothing? Not even a suggestion? I realize it isn't a major problem like my computer getting infected with a virus, but I would like to know if A) The site I tried to get the downloader from was safe and if it wasn't, is there anyplace that I could get a downloader safely?

If you are running the the Pro version of malwarebytes and have the IP Blocker enabled, and you go to that site and it is blocked, then more than likely is is not safe and you should stay away from it. If by chance its a false positive, you can report it in the false positive section and they can review the site to make sure its safe.

As far as recommending one, there are so many to choose from and everyone has different tastes depending what they like. I have used several before and they pretty much do the same thing.

Okay, so, just to be clear, MBAM blocked an advertisement and not the website itself, correct? I assume that because I had access to the page already, this was the case.

I tried the firefox plugin out but the main problem is that I need to be able to convert youtube video into MP3s - I just need to obtain the audio in some shape or form in order to put it on a CD. The company that makes the plugin has a youtube mp3 program but in the EULA it had two parts that make me a bit wary of using the program:

Now, I am unclear as to whether or not this applies only to peer to peer sharing, which would make sense, or if it applies to anytime you use it, in which case it sounds like whenever the heck the program feels like it, other people are going to be using your computer and internet connection. If this isn't the case and I've misread things, please let me know, but otherwise I don't feel comfortable using that particular program, or the add-on for that matter.

Visit the site and incur an IP block. Then right-click on the Malwarebytes system-tray icon after the block notification appears, and choose Add to Ignore List.

Well I know of a website that converts youtube videos to mp3 songs that you then download to your computer (you download the converted mp3 that is) that friend told me about but I don't know how legal or anything it is and if I should post it here or not.

Edit: Just went to mentioned site above and got an IP block but the site itself still loaded fine but I do have advertisements blocked so I don't think it was an advertisement... anyway I am extremely wary of those types of sites anyway and I certainly don't go looking for them.

Sodo, I've never used this program, but having seen the parts of the EULA that you've quoted, I would stay far away from it. There are lots of other YouTube downloaders, and I suspect that some are much less problematic (though I wonder what I would find if I read their EULAs!).

I was just poking around on the add-ons site, and I found an add-on that does conversion from YouTube to MP3. It might be worth a look. I've never used it (and have never read its EULA), but FWIW, you can find it at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/11047/.
