Lost Internet Connection Thru the IE8 Browser

Recommended Posts

I am new to this forum. My son's desktop which is a Dell that has windows xp Pro SP3 installed on it. He was hit with the AV security virus. I ran the Malwarebytes and then I lost connection to the internet through the browser. I have a wireless network. The wireless card is a Zonet ZEW1642 with RAlink software. It was working before I was hit with the virus. I double checked and the wireless card is connected to my router and shows a connection to the internet. I use IE8 browers. Everytime I click on the browser it cannot get to the internet. I can ping to the router.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Open Internet Explorer. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings

If the proxy server box is ticked, un-tick it and try to connect to the internet again.

If this does not work, or if you suspect that there is still malware present on the computer, please try to follow the instructions here as best you can:

It is possible that there is still malware present on your computer.

If you would like a malware removal expert to give you personal assistance, please print out, read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic in the Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs forum here. If you cannot complete any of the steps, just post a NEW topic here and describe the problems you are having.

One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available. Please do not worry if you are not 'technically minded', the expert helpers will give you clear, concise instructions which are easy to follow.

After posting your new post make sure under options that you select Track this topic and choose one of the Email options so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post.

Alternatively, as a paying customer, you can contact the help desk at support@malwarebytes.org

If you follow the expert helper's instructions you should be up and running again pretty soon. :P
