Loading slow in Windows 7

Recommended Posts

I run it on windows 7 and it boots up just fine.

What specs do you have on your computer, what anti-virus or security software do you have....

Please exclude the following files from your antivirus:

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude them from it as well

For Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\zlib.dll
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.dll
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll
  • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\SysWoW64\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE from it as well

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:

data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

The FAQ contains examples of setting file exclusions for some known AV products

I too notice that it takes a while for MBAM to load at startup in my Windows7 netbook. As my sig file says, I'm using MSE as my AV and Outpost7 Pro as my firewall. However, I've been assuming that MBAM takes a while because in Windows 7 it has been set on a kind of delayed startup, at least that's what I think I've read in other threads in this forum. The delay avoids conflicts that have caused many of us to either SET a deliberate delay in WinXP or to wait until after the boot process ends to start MBAM.

So we should leave it alone then? How do you change the default delay?

Leave it alone.

You could go to My Controls then Edit Signature in Personal Profile then add pertinent information about your system so that helpers could offer pertinent advice.

OK, I see where you can change the default under services, but why should I leave it alone? What kind of conflicts are known to occur?

It is best to leave it as is, if you do change it, and your anti-virus and malwarebytes starts at the same time it could lock up your system. Maybe not completely but it would take like 10 minutes for your desktop to come up and everything would run slooooooowwww.

If you do want to change it (at your own risk)

In windows 7 Go to Control Panel, then click on All Control Panel Items, then Administrative Tools. Once there click on Services.

Go down the list and find MBAMService and double click on it.

Under Startup Type: Change it from Automatic (Delayed Start) to just Automatic

Click on OK

Then restart the computer and test it out.

I would strongly recommend that you have file exclusions in your anti-virus software for MBAM before you do this though.
