To those of you using the paid version of MalwareBytes, how does the updating work? The reason I ask is apparently I've been spoiled with the virus programs, etc. automatically updating. I had been using the free version of SuperAntiSpyware and got tired of having to update it manually. I checked the settings, etc. and saw that with the paid version it would update at startup and every 8 hours. It had such good reviews so I trusted it and made the mistake of purchasing it. But, AFTER I had purchased it, I found out that if you're not online when it tries to update, you're out of luck. If you get an update, you have to do it manually. I had assumed it would try again if I wasn't online when it tried the first time but I was wrong. How does the purchased version of MalwareBytes update work? Do I have to be online at the right time with it or if I'm not, will it try again later? I was no better off with the paid version of SuperAntiSpyware than the free one and I don't want to make that mistake again and I don't want to stay online most of the day either. I had tried to install the trial version of SuperAntiSpyware Pro but it kept telling me "expiration period expired" when I had never tried it before. How does this one work with automatic updates? I don't want to make the same mistake twice. Thanks for your time.

Hello Kathy100.

The purchased MBAM has an update scheduler, which you can set to get updates on a schedule to your liking.

You can set updating for once a day or xx days, or every xx hours daily.

Obviously, your pc must be online in order to physically fetch & receive updates.

Admins/Moderators/Trusted Advisers: Please correct me if I am wrong, the timer for scheduler starts when the system boots i.e. assuming you scheduled it to check for updates every two hour and system is shut downed after an hour and fifty-nine minutes now even if system is started immediately it will wait for two hours to fetch automatically (as timer was reset to zero) provided it is on-line

The update scheduler would begin once MBAM is loaded (running). The scheduler uses a start time and use the update interval select by the owner (hourly, every 2 hours, daily, etc). If it is due or past the time for update, it will go check for what's available.

What does it do if you are not online when it's time to check for updates? Does it check once you get online or do you have to do it manually yourself like SuperAntispyware Pro? Does it do like the virus programs do and that is just check as soon as you get online?

Once Windows & MBAM Pro are running again, and if it is matching or past the time (specified for update check) it (MBAM) would do an update check.

The scheduler allows setting the "check" by starting Date & Time and you are given a choice of setting the frequency to hourly, or daily, weekly, monthly, on reboot; and using the "repeat" frequency, you can setup checks every "xx" hours.

Please see this article mentioned already by Sho-dan. The window-screen capture is well worth reviewing by you.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I had checked the link mentioned earlier today but the view wasn't very clear so I couldn't make anything out of it. I just tried it again, and it worked like it was suppose to this time. This program looks like what I've been looking for. Thanks again everyone for your time and information!
