The latest issue of:

says to try:

http://www.win7news.net/QPKA3C/100513-WhiteSmoke <<=CAUTION: clickable link

I was interested. As I clicked on the link, I got a poor rating from WOT and found more than several reviewers that complained of forced installs to completion, browser "infest", and unable to uninstall easily. So I didn't get to the site BUT I'd be curious to hear/see what rating FinJan gives it - real world comparison so-to-speak. I might still be interested in using FinJan, despite my previous FireFox add-on experience with the "agreement" before download. :P

I'm doubly interested because the Newsletter for Win7, (and one or two other OS-specific newsletters) is "published" as a shill for Vipre, etc, from SunBelt and I would expect the site to have a better rating as I know Debbie, the editor, does her homework and holds a host of EXCELLENT ratings/titles including MSSE, MVP, etc.

Thanks to anyone willing to participate - not an argument - a positive example of different rating systems with WOT being a USER-BIASED system. :P

To paraphrase Julius Caesar Veni, vidi, vici that translates to I came, I saw, I conquered so WOT users are a bit like Julius Caesar especially g7w who is the main reason I left WOT :P

How can a user comment on sites if they do not even run the software. :P

What was FinJan's decision?? Good? Middle? Bad? :P

It got a green rating both from Finjan and Browser Defender :

:)

Thanks Mona! I guess user bias does skew ratings on the different programs.

It was nice to see someone actually reply to my question as I asked it as, after the dustup in the other topics. :)

You're my hero for the day.. Extra tidbits all around. *grin*

PS: As a sidenote; what did the "more info >>" say on the SAFE FOR BROWSING TAG?? (only if you have the time to check)

When you click on "more info" you are directed tot the following info from Finjan :

Edit : Tidbits were greatly appreciated, thanks. :)

I downloaded FinJan directly from FinJan after reading the info you posted - And the FireFox extension didn't have a license agreement while if I go to the Mozzila Addon site and try to install it, the license agreement comes up. Go figure.. :) Who'd ever thunk YK1 and myself were both right about what we said about license/no-license policy depending on where the extension is downloaded from. Boggles the mind. *laugh*

:)

Thank you for the input Mona,

I'm now cruising with FinJan *and* WOT.. :)

Well, DRATS!!

FinJan decided on its own to strip NOSCRIPT from Firefox without a warning or even asking. I understand FinJan analyzes the code in web pages in real time to look for rogue code, etc, including scripting. The problem is, FinJan can be toggled ON/OFF during a browsing session (for whatever reason the user wants) and leave Firefox vulnerable. I only noticed NOSCRIPT was gone an hour or so later when I noticed the icon was missing - and in checking extensions, it was gone from there as well. I uninstalled FinJan and reinstalled NOSCRIPT. *grumble* :)

Nevermind - :)Mea Culpa - Works fine now

That's odd because Finjan and NoScript run nicely together, along with ABP and Browser Defender on my Firefox browser.

Hmmmmm... maybe it was a fluke?? Since it runs on yours, Mona, I'll try again. Did you download yours directly from FinJan or from the Mozzila site?

Back in a few minutes while I try this again. (only me.. there must be a dark, rain cloud always hovering over my head) :)

Thanks for the additional input. :)

EDIT: (Banging head up and down on keyboard) You're quite correct Mona; works fine; lasts a long time; guaranteed to operate in an irate user's mode.. :) :) :)

I'm also using ABP but never heard of browser defender before - I'll have to Google that and check it out.

I left WOT too because of g7w and few others. I removed WOT and the account not so long ago because so many reviewers hardly investigate any further than what the reviewers already said and rated. Talk about the blind leading the blinds.

:P Have you tried reading this thread from WOT? The platinium members write to others as if they are headmasters. I think this system of meritocracy is flawed because who decides to rate or judge? And if these platinium members hold the power to decide, then comes to no surprise the power they got becomes centralized. Just by reading this thread, we get a sense of that.
