Marcus Posted June 12, 2010 ID:266050 Share Posted June 12, 2010 At one time I used to use this AV; I was having a look at their homepage recently and am wondering if anybody here has used it recently or is using one of their products. I'd like to know what their experience is with it and the general feeling about it.I quite liked it then: light on the system, not obviously intrusive and quick enough to block what it blocked. The US homepage of this Norwegian company is hxxp://www.norman.com/en-us. exile360 Posted June 12, 2010 ID:266051 Share Posted June 12, 2010 I've used the Norman Malware Cleaner on several occasions and it's proven itself to be a handy standalone virus removal tool, much like Dr. Web CureIT, Trend Micro Sysclean, Kaspersky's AVPTool etc.
Marcus Posted June 12, 2010 Author ID:266052 Share Posted June 12, 2010 ..mm..that's useful to know. The company doesn't seem to be generally that well known in my experience especially as compared with the likes of Avira, Avast and so on.
Guest remixed Posted June 12, 2010 ID:266112 Share Posted June 12, 2010 It used to be up there with the best, but that was then. They've seriously fallen behind in the last couple of years in terms of detection and removal. I would be inclined to file under same category as Webroot and CA. Marcus Posted June 12, 2010 Author ID:266118 Share Posted June 12, 2010 Okay. I'll bear that in mind, remixed. Thanks for your comments.
exile360 Posted June 12, 2010 ID:266460 Share Posted June 12, 2010 I mirror Marcus's sentiments, thanks remixed for the info . I haven't kept up to date on Norman with regards to their effectiveness of late.
noknojon Posted June 12, 2010 ID:266502 Share Posted June 12, 2010 They do / did have a Norman TDSS Cleaner -Not sure of how it compared to CCleaner and ATF Cleaner these days - Seems older style !!
Ibrad Posted June 12, 2010 ID:266506 Share Posted June 12, 2010 If I remember correctly the only real issue I had with them was how to would handle malware submissions. Last time I looked into it in order to submit malware to them you had to submit it to the Norman Malware sand box, if the sand box did not detect anything wrong with the file you could not submit the file to Norman and had to make a post on the Norman forum to get the file detected. Norman just released 8.0 not to long ago which added a Intrusion Prevention system, there AV has never been leading the pack but it's not bad. Marcus Posted June 13, 2010 Author ID:266709 Share Posted June 13, 2010 Useful to know that; one more tool in the armoury for the helpers although I'm sure they all have their own particular favoured and effective tools for that purpose. Thanks to those who've commented. Guest remixed Posted June 13, 2010 ID:266813 Share Posted June 13, 2010 Rootkit removers have moved on a little since Norman's last release (to my knowledge). The current TDSS remover to have in reserve is here;http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.zip
sho-dan Posted June 13, 2010 ID:266858 Share Posted June 13, 2010 Your most correct! remixed the lastest TDSS is TLD4 and I read that its a combo of TLD2/3, little buggers are getting a bit fancy.

dv8ed Posted January 26, 2011 ID:379561 Share Posted January 26, 2011 Any of the tools remove TLD4? Also Combofix does a pretty good job but Hitman Pro finds other viruses or rootkits but Hitman Pro as of late doesn't offer 30 day trials anymore. Any other good software besides Hitman Pro? Firefox Posted January 26, 2011 ID:379802 Share Posted January 26, 2011 Any of the tools remove TLD4? Also Combofix does a pretty good job but Hitman Pro finds other viruses or rootkits but Hitman Pro as of late doesn't offer 30 day trials anymore. Any other good software besides Hitman Pro?Hello and If you are currently infected with TLD4 please follow these instructions....Please read the following so that you can begin the cleaning process:As we don't deal with malware removal in the General Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Forum, you need to start a topic in the Malware Removal forum so a qualified helper can help you fix any malware related problems/infections you may have. Please read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a NEW topic here. After posting your new post, make sure under options, you select Track this topic and choose Immediate Email Notification, so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post. One of the expert helpers there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available. Please refrain from making any further changes to your computer (Install/Uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc...) unless advised by a malware removal helper. Doing so can result in system changes which may hinder the attempts by a helper to clean your machine.NOTE: Please DO NOT post back to (bump) your topic within the first 48 hours.Replying to your own posts changes the post count and helpers are looking for topics with zero replies. If you reply to your own post helpers may think that you're already being helped and thus overlook your post.If there is no reply from any experts after 48 hours, you can reply to the topic, asking for help again.OrYou may send a Private Message to a Moderator asking for assistance.Alternatively, as a paying customer, you can contact the help desk at support@malwarebytes.org or here. Please be patient, someone will assist you as soon as it is possible.PS: Please use the "ADDREPLY" button instead of other ones when you start replying.
