I tried Malwarebytes briefly, and the first thing it did when I ran it was to ask me to put

the Corel Word Perfect disk into the drive. Why would it want that? That disk is a CD-ROM,

so cannot be rewritten. Every time I started up Malwarebytes, it would ask the same thing.

I uninstalled Malwarebytes because it kept on pestering me. The only reason I could think

of was that it could somehow reinstall Word Perfect, which is the last thing I want to

happen. Why would it do that?

It is most likely an issue with your Windows Installer configuration. This often happens with some HP printer drivers as well.

If you no longer have Word Perfect installed and do not wish to re-install it then please do the following as it should correct the issue:

Run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility:

  • Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from here and save the file to your desktop
  • Double-click on msicuu2.exe to install the utility
  • Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation
  • Once you've clicked Finish at the end of the installation click on Start>All Programs and select Windows Install Clean Up
  • Click once on any of the following that are listed to highlight it:

    • Word Perfect
    • Corel Word Perfect

[*]Then click on the Remove button and click OK when prompted

Please post back with your results.

Thanks :)

I do have Word Perfect installed. It works fine. That was why I do not want it reinstalled. Setting up a profile that worked for me was a real hassle, and I did not want to go through that again. Since I have no idea why Malwarebytes wanted to access the Word Perfect CD, I did not want to find out the hard way that it was going to re-install Word Perfect. A little explanation as to why the software wanted me to do something would have been nice. As it is, I have only suspicions.

It's a Windows Installer issue that sometimes happens. I don't know precisely why, but my best guess would be that it has to do with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware registering some of its VB6 Runtime files. Reinstalling Word Perfect does not mean that you would need to uninstall it first. You can install it again using your CD and all of your settings and profile will remain intact.

Ok, thanks for the guess. Malwarebytes kept pestering me about that CD after the install was finished and I was simply running it.

I am not having any problem currently with malware. Superantispyware is very thorough. If I do get infested with something stubborn, I will come back to Malwarebytes, but for now, I just do not want the hassles.
