Regain access to sites blocked by MalwareBytes?

Recommended Posts

First, I'd like to say I have been a devoted user of Malwarebytes software for many years. It's my first line of defense when working on infected computers. I recommend it to everyone who's computers I have worked on.

But now it seems MalwareBytes is blocking access to websites it deems unsafe. While this may be great for the average user, I need access to sites on that blocked list.

I just built a new system: an Intel quad CPU, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 2TB HD, a mid-range graphics card, with the Windows 7 32-bit OS, Microsft Security Essentials and of course the latest version of MalwareBytes Anti-Malware.

Right-clicking and unchecking the website blocking feature of MalwareBytes should restore access to these sites. It doesn't. I tried several browsers; Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox and none can access the sites. So I uninstalled MalwarebytesAnti-Malware. I still cannot access these sites.

Anyone having a similar problem? How did you resolve it?

Hello.

Please see the link below which contains our FAQ's(including reporting false\positives and adding IPs) on this feature for more information:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.p...t=0#entry107310

To access a site that is currently blocked that you wish to view, you may add it to the IP Protection ignore list(v1.42 required) as described below:

Navigate to the page, right-click the Malwarebytes system tray icon(near clock) and select an IP or all IPs listed and they will now be added to the ignore option and listed in the 'Ignore' tab. You may need to refresh the page to access the site.

To remove IPs from ignore, open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and once open, there will be a series of tabs, labeled in order:

Scanner | Protection | Update | Quarantine | Logs | Ignore list | Settings | More Tools | About

Click the 'Ignore' tab. Then highlight an IP listed and then click the 'Remove' button. The IP in question should now be viewable. You may need to refresh the page.

There are no IP's listed when I right-click the Malwarebytes system tray icon.

However when I open the Log file I see one IP listed in there. A quick search shows it is the IP of the site I am trying to access.

How do I add it the the Ignore list?

Hello johnnieq,

Quote from the FAQ section that TeMerc posted:

  • How can I add an IP so it won't be detected and can access a site I need to?
  • This has now been implemented. Visit the blocked site and incur an IP block. Then right-click on the Malwarebytes system-tray icon after the block notification appears, and choose Add to Ignore List and the IP.

The only way you can add an IP to the ignore list now is to trigger a block by MBAM (eg visiting the site). The following figure shows an example of such a block:

If you can trigger that one, then you can add the IP(s) to the ignore list:

Hope it helps.
